Farm Fresh Fridays – Ditched the store this week and hit a fruit stand, not literally!

Hi folks. I have so much to tell you guys but waiting until I have some quiet time so I can think clearly. I am so tired today and been running my butt off most of the day. My brother left this morning, big meanie took his camera with him. Traitor I tell ya, he’s just a big old traitor. Then I had cleaning and wash to catch up which is only half done. I would have done it all but I had booked a hair appointment before big bro told me he was coming. So I scooted off to the city for that, which was great. Love getting my hair colored and cut. Always feel like a million bucks after. Then it was errand city and rushing back to finish some wash before Kiana had to be driven to work. Then back into the city to pick up my son, Braydon. More errands then over to my other bro’s to take care of his kitties while he’s away. Then back to pick Kiana up from work. Exhausted just from listening to that? Ya, me too!!! So I am now home and not going back out. Taking the day off the barn as another trip in the car might send me over the edge. So we’re watching Rookie Blue while getting stuff done. Then we’re going to chill completely and watch Rio. Yes you heard that right. My kids and 17 and 22 and we’re going to watch Rio. It’s what we do, can’t help it. We’re all giant dorks. But a tight knit bunch of dorks so it’s all good.

So you’re saying to yourself  “what is this, no funny incidents or silliness today”. Oh come on now, of course there were incidents. This is me after all. I could not get through the day without something weird happening. The biggie was being yelled out by some old brood for not using my signal. I was pulling in to the bank and as I drove past I heard her yell out “thanks for using you signal lady”. To which I replied out my window “check your eye sight lady, I used my signal”. Of course there were two young girls walking by who heard the whole thing. So I hit the bank, not in a I robbed it kind of way. As I am leaving I turn my signal on again and realize it is in fact broken. So yup, I yelled back at some poor little innocent lady unnecessarily. I rock, don’t I? Oh man, I felt so bad. So of course there is nothing I can do at this point. I am in the city running around without signals. So every time  I went to turn I had to stick my arm out the window and let people know. Most people were waving back at me and looking confused. Including me to be quite honest. I mean I have not used hand signals since I learned to drive 20+ years ago. I know one hand signal and it’s not one I would want to use to be honest. Might get me in more trouble than not signalling I think. Plus I am not the kind to flip the bird to old ladies. Men and young kids, and girls okay. Old dudes perhaps. But little old ladies…that’s just …okay so I have flipped the bird to little old ladies in the past. It’s not like I’m proud of it or anything. I mean I don’t have a bumper sticker saying “I flip off old ladies and teenagers.” I mean they don’t make those, or do they, wonder where I could find….er, forget what I just said. I would never do that. If I find one that just says old ladies and old dudes okay, but I suppose I should draw the line at kids. No flipping kids. Unless they mouth off, then perhaps it’s okay. If you’re bold enough to wear your pants around your ankles maybe you deserve a bird or two. Okay seriously, how did I get on this subject? Let’s move on now.

So I did not want to go downtown to the market today without signals. So I decided to frequent an old hangout near a barn I used to board my horse at. There is a fruit stand around  the corner from the farm and it was on my way home. So I decided to stop there. The place was fabulous. She’s made some great changes in recent years. She sells some crafts, and jam, also pickled stuff. Quite the fun place to stop. I got tons of stuff for $16. I bought musk melon, blueberries, peaches, plums, onions, eggplant and strawberries. So did quite well. Was pretty content with my haul.

I also hit a dollar store today to pick up some props for photos. I spent a bit more there. I spent about $40 but I got tons of stuff. I picked up dozens of napkins, some platters, runners, jars, bowls, baskets, cutting boards, wooden spoons. I cannot believe how much stuff I came away with. Now I need some bright towels. They didn’t have anything worthwhile there. I’ll have to keep my eyes open for them elsewhere.

I stopped at a store in the city in the ritzy area my son works in. I ended up finally finding sjiracha sauce which I had been scouring stores for. So happy I found it as I am doing up a recipe from The Shiksa. So today was a good day. I also picked up some chipotle sauce. So that should be fun to try out as well. I get so excited to find this stuff, but you have to realize I live in boonielandyoutube video with a woman laying on the floor grabbing noodles then practically pulling down an elderly lady while trying to get up it’s quite possibly me. I mean it could be anyone, I’m sure it happens all the time. Right?

So had a good day today. Lots done and oodles of stuff checked off the to do list. Hope you all had great days too. Check back soon for the antics of the lunatic and her family. I was not kidding when I said my life is never dull.

Toodles and smoochies. xx

Photos missing due to a G+ incident. Will be restored soon.

@ Kels- I had so much fun today. All said and done I spent under $100 for groceries, props and fruits n veggies. I have no clue what to do with the eggplant. I've never made it before. Hopefully I figure it out. lol

Camera or not it did not spoil your shopping fun:)

You got some pretty cool stuff. I'm sorry your turn signals aren't working…. The fruits and veggies are beautiful and eggplant is a favorite of mine! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

What kind of camera did your brother have? Sounds like you need to make an investment.. ;)
Don't you love the farmers markets? I met a wicked nice guy at ours last Thursday…
That pasta bake is making me VERY hungry, looks wonderful!

@ Dzoli- So much fun. I'm a bargain gal so loved getting so much stuff for so little dough.

@ Ann- Thanks. I have no clue what to do with eggplant but I shall get creative. lol

@ Kate- Sadly this is a typical day for me. Summers tend to be quieter but during the school year I run like this every day. The poor lady probably went home and talked about it all day. How some crazy lady lied to her. lol

@ foodieinnewengland- Thanks. I will have to pop over and check yours out. I like breaking them up. Not that I ever get on the food porn sites but they only allow one pic per post. So if you made brownies and cake and posted it together they would only accept one of the pics. I learned this recently. But I have been breaking them up for awhile. I find it easier for people to find them that way. Plus I like driving people nuts by posting alot. Lol! My bro has the Rebel, sweet camera. Mine pales in comparison. I do small fruit stands. We have a farmers's market but it's limited hours so hard to do. I must get there though. Cool you met a guy at one. Would be nice to meet a dude who enjoys food and shared interest in it. Pasta bake was the bomb!

That plate of produce looks AWESOME! We have quite a bit of fresh produce right now too and I can't quit thinking about how I'm going to use it all! Looking forward to seeing what you produce!

@ Cassie- I still have no clue for the eggplant. Think I may have to google it. Lol! I always buy too much stuff and some of it goes to waste. My eyes are bigger than my stomach and that's saying something. rofl

I love the farm stands. Farmer's markets are great but who can plan for only 3-4 hours one day a week. I am always missing them and going to the reliable farm stands. Those onions look great!

@ Anne- My life is nuts most days. But I love it. I had a crazy weekend too. We found time to catch a flick though, so that was fun.

@ The Culinary Lens- I hadn't been in for eons so had a blast. They didn't have the big glass jars though. Sorta bummed.

@ Emily- Same as you. I am not a morning person so for me to get up so early on a weekend for the 3 hours they are open is just not easy. I take meds that have to be in my system 3 hours before I leave. So if I went for even 9 or 10 I'd be up at 6 or 7. Seems so wrong on a saturday. We have tons of farm stands here as we're near Leamington Ontario, that's where Heinz is. So it's veggie-apoolza here.
