Happy Graduation to B-Dude and Lunatic Loves These Links June 19

B-Dude at his first University Graduation!

So last week my son graduated from University. Again! *sorry B, had to do it!*
The photo above is from his first 4 years. Last week he received his Masters in Creative Writing. He will be off to Calgary in September to work on PHD, also in Creative Writing. At this point I think his career is Professional Student. But it’s all good because he’s doing what he loves to do. I always told my kids to pick a career they love to bits. If you have to do something every day for the rest of your life you better LOVE it. It was really important to me that both the kids go to University. So to see all the years of B-Dude’s hard work paying off is an amazing thing. In August we’ll be driving him out to Calgary to start life on his own. I’m sure he’s ready. I mean I’ve raised these kids to be smart, well-behaved, stand up citizens right.

See we’re smart, well-behaved, stand up citizens for realz!

Life is always a roller coaster ride with B-Dude. He makes life interesting. He’s typically a very happy-go-lucky kind of guy. He is far too intelligent, has hyper communication skills, can out talk any person on the planet and is seriously fascinated with bugs. Plus the dude hums like there’s no tomorrow. Yup, that’s my boy. So I am certain he will do well out on his own. Even though I don’t really want him to go. To me he’s still a little kid, I just cannot wrap my head around him being out on his own.

Our fave place to go when B was little was Colasanti’s to see the animals!

The thing about our kids is that while it’s hard to let them go you know you must do it. You want them to grow up and be their own person. But the reality of that is they move away then you miss them. I’ve spent almost 24 years being an at home mom so the thought of one of them leaving just kills me. It’s the right thing for him though. He needs to spread his wings, make his mark on the world. So I’ll be supportive and drive him out there. Then probably come unhinged when it comes time to leave him there. It’s in the mom handbook to cry and embarrass our kids as much as humanly possible. I’ve done it on occasion. So it’s nothing new.

Papa (my dad), B-Dude and Uncle Ken (my bro) at B’s grade 8 graduation!

I remember B-Dude’s grade 8 graduation. We had been through a lot that year and after the ceremony he made his way through every one to hug me. I’m not going to lie. I was reduced to a puddle. My dad laughed his butt off at me as I’m not a crier. So it was funny to see me lose it a little bit. Okay a lot. I was just so proud of him. As I always am. He’s grown into a great man. You can’t ask for more than that as a mom. He’s kind, thoughtful, with just a touch of lunatic in him.

B-Dude at Graduation last week. So this is #….giggles! One more to go B!

So HAPPY GRADUATION B-DUDE! I am so proud of you for going for what you want in life. One day you’ll be rich and famous and I can finally live the life I’ve grown accustomed to in my dreams. So get out there man, make your fortune. Then come home and spoil your mother. *giggles*

Okay so now that I’ve fully embarrassed my son let’s move on.

First a quick announcement. I moved Lunatic Loves These Links to Tuesday this week. Here’s the dealio. I am participating in Meatless Mondays. I’ve always dabbled in them but I decided to join the group and will post those on Monday obviously. Probably twice a month as I like to take the occasional Monday off blogging. Anyhow I do Give a Girl A Grill on Tuesdays and it just seems uncool to place a grilling recipe next to the Meatless Monday post. It was freaking me out a little so I actually didn’t post Give a Girl a Grill last week. I do a balanced approach to eating. Once or twice a week we eat meatless, but other days we eat meat. I just didn’t like the idea of someone visiting the blog and Meatless Monday is next to a steak. So to be mindful I am moving that to Thursday just so there’s a gap and no one whose a vegan or vegetarian would be offended. I know, I overthink things right. It’s okay. I feel better doing it this way. Everyone knows I eat some meat so that’s not an issue. I just want to be mindful of my visitors. So from here on out Lunatic Loves These Links will go up on Tuesdays and Give a Girl a Grill will go up on Thursdays. Thanks for understanding the changes.

Also I will announce the winner of the cookie jar this week. I had some challenges with that giveaway. I do not think people realize that if you enter a giveaway and say you are tweeting about it or following someone you are actually supposed to um, tweet and follow.  So it was an interesting draw. I’ll announce the winner publicly this week. So excited for the winner to get their cookie jar. I just love mine to bits.

Okay so on with Lunatic Loves These Links. Hope you enjoy!

Kim, I know you are beyond Proud of B! And I think It’s on page 2 of the mom’s handbook about crying (sobbing) over your kids in public and embarrassing them but it’s all good, just remind him how many times as a young guy he farted or burped in public! lol.
Because I love you and because you always bring sunshine into everyone’s life each time you post, I’ve got an award for you. Be sure to check it out.

    Feel fetter fast girl, hugs!

I really am. He’s chosen a hard profession. Not like writers make big bucks these days. But he loves it so you just gotta go for it. I would remind him but he’d probably tell me it was usually me doing that stuff. Lol.

Awe, you are so sweet. How kind of you. I love hearing that kind of thing. Thank you so much. xx

  2. 3

Congratulations to your son. Best wishes to him as he embarks on the PHD.

I skimmed your B dude write up. I felt the lump in my throat growing just thinking about my own kiddo’s and I just applied fresh makeup ;) I am also brought to a weeping bundle when it comes to my kids growing up. I cry at the beginning of each school year. I can’t imagine the state of weepiness I’m going to be in when they leave me.

    Great links!

Awe Dee, I know how you feel. Some posts are hard to read. And I’m a gal who totally gets the need to not undo the makeup. It’s hard watching them grow up. 23 and 18 now, where does the time go. I’m going to lose my mind when he moves out. And then mini-me will go later and I’ll need to be institutionalized I’m sure. I want them to be little again.

  4. 7

Congratulations B-Dude. Curious as to whether he’ll be the next Stephen King or Ernest Hemingway.

You’re cute with the meatless next to meat thing. I can’t say I have that problem. :) How did I miss the cheesecake? Oh the travesty of being gone for a week! Heading over to check it now.

Thanks Christiane. Probably a cross between them with a little graphic novel tossed in for good measure. His writing is cool but out there. His thesis blew my mind, not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s amazing. He also writes poetry. It’s pretty cool.

Lol, I was having panic attacks about it. I overthink these things I know.

That cheesecake is so good. We had more of it tonight. So amazing.

  5. 9

Thanks for the shoutout, Kim! You make me feel exhausted looking at and reading about all you do!!! BTW, I love the idea of a degree in Creative Writing – how fabulous!

    • 10

You are most welcome Mardi. Lol, I always say I’d rather be busy than bored. But some days I think bored might be a welcome relief.

It is pretty cool. I think technically it would be considered English Lit but I tend to call it creative writing. His focus is disabilities. Some days he tries to explain it all to me and it makes my brain bleed. He’s far too cerebral for me most days. Lol!

  6. 11

Congrats! I hope he spoils his mom when he becomes rich and famous. Well done for raising such an impressive kiddo. Thanks for the shoutout. Also, since I live vicariously through your desserts I am requesting PIE!!!

    • 12

Thanks Dara. I am all for being spoiled rotten. I have needs, and they revolve around a horse ranch in Hawaii.

You are most welcome. Pie is coming. One may be late due to the frigging heat but they are coming.

  7. 14

Many congratulations to your son! And that ice cream sundae (I almost wrote “Sunday”!) is making me swoon.

  8. 16

Congratulations to your son on his graduation! You’ve obviously done a wonderful job raising him. Or maybe he’s so great despite you…who knows? :) Either way, you’ve got a terrific son and you have a right to be very proud. I’m waiting for embarrassing daughter posts now… :)

    • 17

Bah, that made me laugh. He’s a cool kid/adult and I’ll be sorry to see him go. Oh mini-me has a harder punch so I have to be careful posting stuff about her.

  9. 18

Congrats to your son, Kim!! That’s awesome. I know what it’s like to see them leave the nest. You get excited and sad all at the same time. I have watched 3 go with 3 still left here.

Thanks so much for including me in your linkie line up this week. I’m honored :-)

    • 19

Thanks Janet. I am pretty happy for him. I am also seriously bummed he’s leaving. I take it personally. I can’t help it. I’m questioning the meals I’ve served, or if his clothes weren’t clean enough…where did I go wrong that he wants to leave. *sigh*

      You are most welcome. xx

  10. 20

Congratulations to both you and your son! I have an English major daughter (Victorian literature–who does that?) who is trying to get into grad school. Her dream? Being a free-lance writer. So, I really, really mean it when I say congratulations. And one more thing. Your blog rocks with all of the sweet things, ice creamy dreamy things, lunatic in general things. I want ice cream!

      Kim Bee says:

Thanks Terri. Oh how cool, she really went out on a limb with that but I love it. He did the first 4 years in Eng Lit, then the Masters, and now on to the phd. I’m not going to lie, it scared me that he wanted an arts degree. Not that I don’t appreciate and love the arts, cuz I really truly do. But I worried for his income potential. But I also always told the kids to do what they love, so I had to step back and out of the way. Hard thing. I think most people think it’s an easy degree and easy life but my goodness it’s so not. The hours he’s put in would match any science major. Funny how it’s perceived though. I’m just as guilty of it.

Thank you so much. I tend to eat like an 8 year old. No denying it. I have serious food issues. Lol!

  11. 22

Aw, so fun to be on your LLTL list! I love when you share family photos…congrats to B!!! You should be proud, Mama B.

  12. 24

    Congratulations to B-Dude!

  13. 26

Congrats, Bray….I’m so happy to you!

  14. 28

Your Oreo milkshake was milkshake heaven to me. What could be coming?

      Kim Bee says:

Thanks Emily. Mostly cold foods cuz it’s so freaking hot here. I swear I am melting and the air is on. Ugh!

  15. 30

    Congrats to B-Dude! It’s a great accomplishment!

  16. 32

Congrats and best wishes to your son!
You are so thoughtful, no steak next to meatless monday, not sure I would have considered that…looking forward to your grilling posts.

      Thanks so much.

I have issues. I tend to over-think things. I do love to grill. It’s just so much fun. Just wish I had a pool to cool off in when needed.

  17. 34

Yay!!! Congrats to the Kim offspring. If he is a really really smart man, he doesn’t share his mothers love for Pepsi. *grins*
