Farm Fresh Fridays takes a trip to Toronto

Fresh Bread from Whole Foods

Last weekend I took a trip to Toronto to attend Techmunch. The conference itself was incredible. I learned so much and met some wonderful people. Since the trip is 4 hours there and 4 hours home it did not leave much time for scouring the city for Farmer’s Markets and cute little shops. I did however get to hit Whole Foods, Williams Sonoma and browse around the Hot & Spicy Food Festival while there.

I also made a quick trip to Sephora. And when I say quick I mean it. We had 20 minutes at the mall after Mission Impossibling our way through the Toronto streets. So I spent 10  minutes at Sephora and 10 minutes at Williams Sonoma. Since we don’t have either locally it was a quick but welcome treat. It’s amazing how much money you can spend in each of those stores in 10 minutes. I also scooted over to Whole Foods. And when I say scooted I mean drove past three times due to traffic not letting me merge then almost having a coronary in the tiny, narrow parking garage that is not meant to hold the beast that is my SUV. I can see why people in the city walk or bike. Traffic is insane and parking is like navigating a labyrinth. Had so much fun though. I personally like small towns and am not a city gal. B-Dude on the other hand loved it. Except for Sephora. He rebelled and hit Banana Republic instead. Dudes, what can you do. Hope you enjoy the pics. It’s the FFF post with the least fruits and veggies ever. I’d apologize but heck, I don’t even feel a little bit bad about it.

I picked this little jar of goodness from the Food Festival. Trying it out this weekend!

Sweet Basil is my absolute fave! Also picked up some sauce, they didn’t have my old standby so trying out a new one! Williams Sonoma I heart you big time!

My stash of Sephora goodies. Like I said you can really damage your bank account in 10 minutes in there. So worth it though!

Whole Foods scores me some red rice which will probably hurt my tummy, and some liquid smoke I’m testing out tonight!

Whole Foods has the best chocolate in the world!

So I bought 2 to appease mini-me!

I also scored some fancy shmancy waters at Whole Foods. Rose Water and Pistachio Ice Cream here I come!

Sticky Buns to cheer mini-me up. She decided not to come to Toronto and I felt bad so I brought home lots of goodies for her!

They were giving out samples of this at the conference! Made for a nice snack bag for the long ride home!

Cuz when you’re travelling with a 23-year-old with a hollow leg you want lots of snacks on hand! Otherwise he may gnaw of his own arm or something!

I think we’re venturing to St. Jacob’s next week so if we do there should be more pics of actual fruits and veggies from actual farms in next week’s edition. Like I said, I want to feel bad but it’s really hard when you get to go to places like Williams Sonoma, Whole Foods and Sephora. The only way this day could have better is if I had hit Crate and Barrel or The Container Store. A girl has to have standards. See you next week with actual perishables I promise!

If you’d like to see actual photos of the Techmunch conference head on over to Swallow. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Ivy Knight there, she is a riot to engage with. I am planning on descending upon Toronto again in the fall so I can crash one of her parties. Also planning on hitting all the farmer’s markets with Izzy from Crumb. Izzy is the most down to earth lady you could ever meet. Sharp as a razor too, the woman is brilliant. I apologize for not taking photos at the conference. Must have been lack of sleep or just being overwhelmed by all the amazing speakers. I had a choice, take pics or notes. I figured the notes would be a good decision. Good call if you ask me!

Toodles and smoochies! xx

So, inquiring minds want to know. What are you making with the liquid smoke? (we use at least 2 bottles a month!)

  2. 2

Sounds like a fun trip with delicious shopping haul my friend :D
Personally the favourite are the sticky buns!

Went to see the picks. Had to laugh that the first pic of you was of your chest….must have been payback for your buttilicious post the other day ;-). Was glad to see a photo of your beautiful face near the end.

We need to set up a time to chat….

I came home and C asked how it went. I was all “totally cool and there will be a photo of my breasts online”. His response, “sounds about right”. Good lord, seriously you can’t take me anywhere. The face pic horrified me, I didn’t sleep the night before and you can SO tell. Although I was pretty excited to have my photo taken with the incredible Stephanie. She is SO nice in person.

      We do. Do you skype?

HI Kim, wow, it’s impressive that you were able to get out of Williams Sonoma in 10 minutes. I would anchor myself with all Le Creuset there just to stay longer: love that store! :)

I haven’t had any liquid smoke for over a year. It think it’s time to bring another bottle over. What a haul you have!

I love Whole Foods! I hope you can eat the red rice…. it’s so good and good for you. Looks like a spectacular shopping trip full of my kind of goodies! Have a great weekend! ~ Ramona

I’ve never heard of Liquid Smoke or red rice but I’ll take the chocolate and sticky buns. I know all about hollow legs with a sportsman husband.

You got so many goodies!!! I try to avoid Whole Foods because…I would spend every cent I had in there

Sounds like you had a good trip.

Wow you got some serious swag! I love Williams Sonoma too much ;)

I have to admit I had to Google Sephora – I would have chosen the Banana Republic too! I don’t think Sephora has anything to offer me. ;-) Whole Foods is great. I used to love Williams-Sonoma, but these days prefer hitting up restaurant supply stores – more interesting selection, though not anywhere near as glitzy. Sounds like a fun trip!

I am on the floor laughing. It’s a total girlie place. I’m not overly girlie day to day but I love to pretend I’m rich and famous on occasion. I had a blast cuz we don’t have any of those stores where I live. We do have a chef store though and I completely agree, the selection is freaking incredible. I’ve bought some really interesting things there. I am chomping at the bit to travel cross Canada and the states next month. Watch out world, there’s a lunatic on the loose looking for food props. Heaven help us all.

Hi Kim, thanks for your kind comment on my blog. No wonder you were getting all those goodies, if you don’t have William Sonoma near where you live. For us, W.S. is ‘too close for comfort’, also Sephora, also Gap, Sur le Table, and so many other gourmet shops. You can spend an entire day at City Place in West Palm Beach, and the Garden Malls in Palm Beach Gardens…all near (too near)…too dangerous, and for the ‘little misses’…Justice shop for the pre-teen girls!

Whole Foods is my all-time favorite organic market! My daughter and I, literally spend about 2 to 3hrs when we shop there, and have lunch, as well!

You are so welcome Elizabeth. I adore your blog.

By days end I was grateful we don’t have them nearby. My wallet was empty. I’ve never been to Sur le Table either. I am hoping to find one on our road trip across the states.

Whole Foods is amazing. I’ve been in twice now. I can see why you two enjoy it so much. I could spend all day in there. The only downside is the prices. But some of that stuff is so worth it. I’m regretting not getting the pistachio oil I was eyeing. I should have just bit the bullet and grabbed it.

I love looking into someone’s goodies and study what I can shop next. =P Freshly baked bread, sticky buns, and hmmm GOOD chocolate sound wonderful. I should swing by WF to see what I can find before picking up my daughter this morning.
