This chili is not for sissies. Have your guests bring their appetites for this one. It's manly, meaty and chock full of veggies and beans. So many beans you may want to warn your family and friends when you eat this stuff. It's delicious but I'm telling you the next day you don't want anyone behind you. … [Read more...]

One would think with the new year upon us I'd have lots of healthy food to share with you in this recap. Yet...not so much. I've been in birthday mode which tends to turn into a one or two week binge-fest. For some reason I go on these benders every year. My birthday turns into a free for all. I know I should feel bad but … [Read more...]

Well Happy Birthday to me! And what a birthday it is. Cake, prezzies, sleeping in, and a cake surprise that is bound to blow my skirt up. I am one lucky birthday gal! … [Read more...]

There are some recipes that just scream childhood to me. Jello is one of them. My mom used to make jello all the time. We ate it constantly as kids. Sometimes it was plain, sometimes it had fruit cocktail mixed into it and other times she would layer it. This recipe reminds me of my mom. I love recipes that make me think of her. I have so many wonderful memories of her that revolve around food, and around jello. … [Read more...]

So this post has been a long time coming. I'm known for my sense of fun, so serious posts are hard to write. I mulled it over and rewrote it multiple times. Then I figured screw it, I'm just going to write like I always do. From the hip, and the heart. Buckle up, it might get bumpy. … [Read more...]

There are people you meet in life that you just know are going to be friends for life. There are also people you meet in life that are so cool you think they must have been Fonzie in a former life or something. Then there are people who are so inexplicably nice you have to pinch yourself to be lucky enough to be their friend. When the stars align you get all of these things in one person. Then you realize it gets even better because not only are you friends with a Fonzie-like, uber … [Read more...]

There is just something about the smell of fresh bread wafting through your house on a weekend. Add some apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and caramel sauce and it's almost sensory overload. Notice I say "almost". To me there is no such thing as "too much of a good thing". When I make things with cinnamon and nutmeg I just want the food to practically swim in it. I cannot help myself. I find myself dashing on a little more spice, then a little more. Luckily my family shares my obsession with cinnamon and … [Read more...]

I have to start by raving about this bolognese sauce. It's my go-to recipe for sauce. It takes some time to make, it's one of those low and slow type of recipes. It's so worth the effort and time though. It is my favourite bolognese sauce in the world. And I've eaten a lot of bolognese on the path to this one. A LOT of bolognese! … [Read more...]
