Cravings of a Lunatic Recipes

Happy Wednesday!

I love Wednesdays. Wednesdays is Supernatural day. It’s Sam and Dean day. My favourite day of the week. Pretty boys. Then pretty food. Ah, life is good.

I had all kinds of things planned for you this week. It was supposed to be my week to buckle down and get caught up on some things. Hubs was going to be home for almost 4 days straight which is rare. So I made all kinds of plans and then hubs came home from his job, out-of-town, wicked sick. I mean wicked, horrible, ugly sick. Like I’m walking around with a surgical mask over my face, and Lysol strapped to my hip at the ready every second. You never know when a Lysol emergency might happen when someone is sick. This is a time where knowing the boy scout motto of “always be prepared” comes in handy. It also helps to drape everything in the house with plastic. You can just recycle it. See, I’m protecting myself and the environment at the same time. Win-win!

So basically hubs is sick as a dog, I’m questioning who the heck came up with that stupid saying and I have no work done. I’m terrified I’m going to get sick before my big trip to Toronto to whoop it up with Izz from Crumb. We were meeting on Sunday to terrorize Sephora, Williams Sonoma and possibly Whole Foods, then moving on to raise the roof while we watch Lidia Live. If I can’t go due to being sick someone is going to pay. And pay dearly. I can deal with not getting my work done but if someone interrupts play time, heads are going to roll.  Luckily I’m also heading up to Toronto later this month so I can drive my son to the airport. So here’s hoping that trip goes perfectly. Izz said there is a year round farmers market in Toronto so I’m just chomping at the bit to check it out.

I have really been slacking on posting lately so there’s not a ton to share from the last 2 weeks. I really need an assistant at this point. Anyone want a job? I pay in krispie treats and ice cream. And we watch lots of shows with cute boys in them. Come to think of it, that may be why I am not getting anything done around here.

WHAT I’VE BEEN UP TO RECENTLY (click any photo to get to the recipe):

Manly Meaty Chili

Chocolate Cream Puffs with Whipped Cream & Strawberries

Turtle Bundt Cake

Pizza Pretzel Rolls from Cravings of a Lunatic

Hussy Pasta from Cravings of a Lunatic

Caper & Chorizo Pizza

Made a Caper & Chorizo Pizza that is up on the Aurora Importing site right now!

There’s a side bet going on Aurora Importing between me and Izz of Crumb. Stop by and vote for which one of our recipes you like better. Signed cookbooks by Lidia Bastianich are on the line!

Also if you pop by the Hussy Pasta there are 2 tickets to go see Lidia Live in Toronto on Sunday. You have until 5 pm Friday to enter. All you have to do is shout out your favourite pasta on *that* post. Not here, it won’t count here.

Black Forest Parfaits

The Dairy Farmers of Canada invited me to have some fun and submit a recipe for a contest. You can stop by Anyday Magic to vote for my Simple Black Forest Parfaits. The recipe is on their site right now. The two other bloggers involved are freaking amazing. I’m in incredible company whether I win or lose.

Quick Update: I was lucky and won this round of the challenge. You can view the recipe on their site

In homage to the contest I shall be celebrating Whipping Cream Week from February 18th to February 23rd. You all know when you buy heavy cream you only use a little bit so you end up with leftover cream. I’m going to share some ways to use that cream and make the most of it. This is going to be a complete blast. I’ve never done a full week of something like this so this should prove to be a ton of fun. Coming up with ways to use whipping cream, yup,my life is so hard.

OMG I love your Turtle Bundt Cake!! I’d love to go help you so that I get to eat all the dishes you make, including that cake and Caper & Chorizo Pizza (Major YUM!). Hope everything will work out and you enjoy the trip! I forgot that we have a family trip coming up next weekend too… darn I need to squeeze in more work before we leave. Take good care and keep the assistant position open for me! 😀

Thanks so much Nami. I wish we lived closer to each other. We would make an excellent team.

Don’t you wish there were more hours in a day? I just can’t keep up any more. I need a better routine.

And I love that cake. You may rarely bake but when you do it’s impressive.

Oh no! I hope the husband keeps his germs to himself! I am wielding Lysol for you, hoping that somehow that will help to keep you all healthy so you can go have The Funnest Time in Toronto!!

You have been such a busy, busy Lunatic. Reading this post just makes me want to take a nap!

Great round up of yumminess, both yours and others’. Thanks for including those crazy sweet rolls in your list, ma’am!

    Stay well! <3

We call Wednesday Supernatural day too!!! *claps* Michael and I always get very excited :) Especially bc the last 3 episodes (including last night’s) have been particularly good and remind me more of the days where Kripke was runnin’ the show (AKA seasons 1-5) and that makes me happyy happy happy!

So sorry hubs is sick, and definitely hope you don’t catch whatever he has. There have been tons of nasty things going around this year – much more than I can remember for quite some time. Fun round up, and thanks for linking to my homemade butter!

Sending booster vibes to your immune system!!! Fingers crossed you’ll be shopping till you drop this weekend :) Your Black Forest Parfaits look phenomenal…how can you not win???? Off to vote.

PS…I’m thrilled to make your lunie links this week :)

Oh dear, I tried to vote for you but it wouldn’t accept my New Zealand postal code so I couldn’t. You are way ahead anyway but you may want to tell them they should keep the voting international since this internet is international

  7. says

So… I’m pretty obsessed with those pizza pretzel rolls… Like want to drive out into the blizzard to get the ingredients…. Thanks for the shout out!

Kim, you need Lysol on both hips! Do not get sick! We need our girlie time, away from the house and responsibilities to maintain sanity. Find one of those 10 foot poles and push his food into the room, like feeding a lion in a cage. If he’s on a liquid diet, just find the garden hose and tell him it’s a long straw.
Hope you have loads of fun and find all the great bargains. Hugs!
