Today’s recipe can be found in a new cookbook called Where Slow Food and Whole Food Meet. Read on to find out where you can get your copy!
Okay so that title is a mouthful. I was trying to fit in all the elements of this post. It’s for a good cause so bear with me. Plus you have lots of chances to win stuff so that’s an added bonus.
The basic idea of today’ post:
Show you the photo of the recipe I contributed to the cookbook we are chatting about today.
Tell you a little about the project and help raise awareness for Hunger Action Month.
Share a list of other bloggers who contributed to the book, as well as other bloggers giving away awesome prizes.
Giveaway awesome prizes here!
That pretty much sums up what is happening today. I’d love for you to read on to find out more before you enter.
So about 30 bloggers were brought together to contribute to this awesome ebook. I’m giving away 2 copies today. We all came up with recipes and worked our little food blogger butts off for the cause. None more than Jennifer of Mother Thyme and Christine of Cook the Story. They were amazing at organizing this project so huge props to the girls for all the did.
September is Hunger Action Month, a nationwide campaign mobilizing the public to take action on the issue of hunger. We’ve been mobilized and we’re hoping to mobilize others.
Feeding America states:
46 million people in the United States deal with hunger issues, including 12 million children and 7 million seniors.
One in seven Americans turns to the Feeding America network for food assistance.
Feeding America, through its network of 200 food banks and 58,000 feeding programs, provides food assistance
That is astounding to me. And a lot heartbreaking. But also absolutely amazing that an organization can do so much to help. I am in awe of what organizations like this do to help.
How all of us bloggers helping to do our part:
We wanted our book to help in a big way so all of the proceeds from the print copy of the book are going to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. We hope it helps a little bit. Every drop in the bucket helps to fill it.
How you can help:
Buy the book on Amazon. You can find Where Slow Food and Whole Food Meet there and your purchase helps the cause.
Feeding America food banks from across the country are giving the ebook version as a free gift to their donors. If you make a donation you will be given the ebook as a free gift. Donate right now and get your free ebook by clicking here.

Some stuff about our sponsors:
To help get the word out about hunger in America and our cookbook, some generous sponsors have jumped on board.
Together, San Miguel Produce, Grimmway Farms and Old Oak Farms by RPE Produce are making some big contributions to help end hunger. They are each contributing food to their local food banks AND they are giving $5 for every print copy of the book that we sell.
That’s in addition to the proceeds from the book that are already going to the food bank! When you buy a copy of the book here, you not only get a beautiful book sent to you in the mail, you also are getting these generous companies to make a donation to a worthy cause.*
PLUS, these sponsors, along with Hamilton Beach, have put together some amazing giveaways to help you get excited about this book.
Some deets about the giveaways:
1. Each of the bloggers who contributed to the book is giving away two print copies of our new cookbook. These print copies are sponsored by San Miguel, Grimmway and Old Oak Farms. I have 2 copies up for grabs here on the blog.
2. Many of the bloggers are also giving away a Set & Forget® Programmable 6 Quart Slow Cooker with Probe sponsored by Hamilton Beach, including myself.

Legal Mumbo Jumbo:
Open to U.S. residents only. Sorry my fellow Canucks and International Peeps. If it makes you feel better I did not receive a slow cooker because of my location either! It’s all good in the hood. Each company has rules they need to follow for these types of things. I don’t sweat the small stuff!
Winner must be 18 years of age.
Winner must reply to email notification of their win within 72 hours, or a new winner will be drawn.
Thanks for entering and supporting the cause. xx

(Maybe even another slow cooker!).
Also, different contributors from the cookbook will be joining Courntey Crozier, a former contestant from The Biggest Loser, for her weekly #justcrunchem twitter parties on September 11th, September 18th and September 25th from 8-9pm Eastern. They’ll be chatting about the new season of The Biggest Loser, healthy food, slow cooking and Hunger Action Month. And there will be prizes there too!
Disclaimer Mumbo Jumbo:
While some bloggers received slow cookers to test out their recipes I did not. Since I’m Canadian I was not eligible to receive one. Any blogger who did receive a slow cooker to test out will have a disclaimer on their blog. We’re required to let you know that kind of stuff.
Each blogger received a ebook copy of the cookbook.
This post does contain affiliate links. If you order the book through Amazon I would receive a small commission. I use any commissions I make to help keep the kitchen stocked and also to provide awesome giveaways for my readers. Thanks to anyone who helps support the blog in any way they can. It’s much appreciated.
And thanks to anyone who made it to the bottom of the post. I realize there is a lot of info included so thanks for hanging in there. We hope you help raise awareness for the cause. If you can help by buying a book or by donating please do so. Any little bit helps. It goes a long way to help out families in need. We appreciate your time, support and anything you can do to help.
Toodles and smoochies! xx
