Well, I realized today I have not posted in about 2 weeks. It had not dawned on me that it had been that long. I hope you all have not been too worried about me. I am in fact alive and well. Or I should say alive and broke. What a whirlwind couple of weeks we’ve had here. I have cooked a bit but mostly stuff you have already seen posted. For the most part there has been a bit of eating out and leftover, lots of quick meals. Tends to happen when life spirals out of control.
So in the last 2 weeks we’ve had our son fly off to B.C. for a conference then a visit with my lovely sister. We got to skype, which was my first time so was fun. He had a ball and my sister had a great visit with him. So tremendously successful trip away for a week.
During Braydon’s absence my oldest brother Scott came for a visit from Nova Scotia. He was here for a week. Love having him. Was a bit more chaotic than usual though so not our most successful visit to date. Had lots of life issues going on while he was here so lots of having to run off to tend to things. We did get to have some gabfests and a family dinner. We also took the kids to a show so that was fun. Scott, myself and my brother Ken were able to be together on the anniversary of our Dad’s passing so that was nice. Been 4 years now. Time just flies by.
So during Scott’s visit our horse got sick. She started coughing, almost choking. We had to make lots of trips out to check on her. The barn owner had the chiropractor look at her and he put her on lymph supplements. Then I had the vet out and we did her teeth and had a checkup. She is now on antibiotics and we’re wetting all her food. She seems better now. But was a rough week or so worrying and driving out there constantly. It’s a good 20+ minutes from my house so doing it twice a day is time consuming and expensive. But we love her so we do anything necessary for her.
Also during that week my hubby wrote two of the engineering licensing exams. This is monumental and unbelievably stressful for him. For one thing each test costs money to write. So it adds extra incentive to do well so you don’t have to pay again if you don’t pass it. He got 86% on the first so he did extremely well. We don’t have the second results back yet. This step makes him a higher class and opens more doors job wise to him. He finishes school next month so we’re crossing fingers he gets a kick ass job out of this. As much as I joke about missing shopping and all the silly things I say about this time of our lives I must tell you it has been the most stressful, difficult time of our lives. The money issues are overwhelming and the strain it puts on us all is hard to put into words. I am amazed we’re all okay and still speaking to each other to be quite honest. It has been a real test of us all. Thank goodness for my sis Deb who comes to my rescue in so many ways. Without her support I would be in a room with padded walls right now.
We have also had the pleasure of our daughter going to prom. Kiana is not a girlie girl so this was amazing to see. She borrowed a dress, got her nails done, had her friends so her hair and makeup. She looked fabulous and I am glad she went and had fun.
Castiel went in for his neuter this week. So we had them declaw as well. Of course with us being us it had to be chaos. He had to have more complicated surgery as he had one testicle not descend. So they have to cut into the abdomen to get it otherwise it can cause issues later in life. So his recovery has been awful. The first day was horrible, lots of belly pain and crying. I felt so bad for the little guy. He is now doing better. He refuses to wear his cone and will launch himself into orbit trying to get it off. We figure he’s safer without out as is everything in his path really. I’ve never seen a cat become such a contortionist while wearing a cone. He’s pulled off all but one foot bandage. That one he just flicks as he walks. I swear he thinks he’s quite a sight to behold while walking. The effort put into making us watch him is pitiful. He must be admired every moment of the day or he is just not satisfied. He’s really quite a ham. The other cats now think he’s evil as he smells of vet. Or it could be that he looks like an alien Santa Claus. I think probably the latter.
So all this and other minor issues that life throws in every one’s ways has made this blog go AWOL. I do apologize and promise recipes in abundance over the next few days. Hopefully one so good it will make my absence seem worthwhile. I will be forgiven and redeemed. And hopefully full and happy! Check back later for recipes. Right now I must hop back in my mighty SUV and drive Kiana to work. Toodles.
