- 4 cups milk 2%, or any kind you prefer
- 1 cup Nutella
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon or to taste
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg or to taste
- ¼ cup corn syrup or honey if corn syrup isn't your thing
Begin by grabbing a medium size saucepan and place it on the stovetop. Add the milk to the saucepan, then turn the heat to medium-high. Let the milk simmer for about 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Next, add the Nutella to the saucepan and continue simmering until all of the Nutella dissolves completely. Whisk often until the Nutella is incorporated into the milk.
Once the Nutella has melted into the milk you can turn the heat up a tiny bit, allowing it to bubble just slightly, then turn off the heat.
Add spices and corn syrup, then whisk for about 1 to 2 minutes, until the spices and corn syrup are mixed in really well.
Next, pour the Nutella hot chocolate into mugs. You can top them with whipped cream marshmallow creme, or mini marshmallows, if desired.
Serve.
If you're watching calories you can use a different milk option and less Nutella. Or omit the corn syrup. We like ours to be indulgent but there are ways to cut back the calories if you prefer.
This makes 4 generous mugs of hot chocolate. If you're serving smaller portions if can serve 6 to 8. We like big mugs of hot cocoa so for our family this serves the 4 of us.
