These caramel dipped grapes are a fun snack idea for the kids. They are simple and fun to make. Perfect little treats for weekends or staycations. Bite sized little bits of pure joy!
Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE fruit. Fresh fruit is my snack of choice on any given day. There is nothing like fresh fruit to satisfy your sweet tooth.
One of my all time favourites is grapes. I absolutely LOVE them. I’ll eat them in any form I can get them but I honestly prefer them ice cold. Cold grapes are everything.
I know many of my readers know me for seriously decadent desserts. I’m not going to lie, I have a serious sweet tooth and I love a great sugary dessert.
However, I love fruit equally. Oddly, I tend to like it in it’s purest form 90% of the time. I enjoy it in baked goods but the more pure the better for me.
I always stock up on TONS of grapes every time I hit the grocery store. Since we live in Ontario I’m super happy I can always get fresh grapes from southern climates like Chile.
That’s what I love about recipes like this. It’s just a simple twist to amp up the fun factor for kids and adults, alike. One addition and it becomes something entirely different.
My kids are older now but when they were little they had their friends over constantly. Especially during march break and summer vacation. My house was always packed.
The kids’ friends loved coming over because I always had the best food and snacks. No lie. I had a million options on any given day. Some day I had a million and one.
Since I was always cooking and baking the kids would gravitate to the kitchen. Usually, they would camp out at the kitchen table and talk while I was busy doing my thing.
It always led to lots of giggles and me finding out way too much about their lives but I wouldn’t have it any other way. They would usually forget I was the mom and talk openly.
We would gab about everything from school projects to what teachers annoyed them. They would tell me who they were crushing on or who was getting into trouble.
Those gab sessions were always the highlight of my week and always included lots of fun snacks. Sometimes it was junk food but more often than not it was fruit with a bit of a twist to it.
Many times they would stop by unannounced so I learned to whip up fun snacks with minimal ingredients. Apples with fruit dip, bananas covered in chocolate, and grapes dipped in caramel.
Whenever we made these I would set out little ramekins of extra things they could dunk the caramel grapes into. Things like graham crumbs, smashed Oreos, coconut, dried fruit, or nuts.
The possibilities are endless with snacks like this. You can dress them up any which way you like. Basically, use what you have or use what you love. That’s always the best rule of thumb.
Let the kids have fun and be part of the process. Just be very careful if you’re letting them dunk the grapes in caramel. It gets super hot and can really hurt if you touch it when it’s hot.
So while I advise you to use caution, I also highly encourage you to get the hooligans involved. Let them put toothpicks or drink skewers in the grapes. Let them pick out things to dunk into.
It’s all about the time you spend with them. Cooking is about teaching them life skills but it’s also about making memories with them. You can never spend too much time with them.
During March Break, Summer Break, and staycations try to spend as much time with them as you can. You will never regret spending time with your munchkins. Ever.
Let them have some fun treats. Allow them to make messes. Encourage them to let their creative side come out. The more you encourage them to create the more their confidence grows.
So, get in the kitchen with them and whip up some fun snacks. Make a mess, make a treat, but most of all make some memories. You will treasure those memories forever. Trust me.
