I can smell the love in the air. All those romantics are out in full force planning the perfect Valentine’s Day. The whole world gets in on the action and romance takes over everyone’s brains. It’s such a sweet time. Such romantic time. Such a…
excuse me while I hurl.
Seriously people it’s just a day like any other. You can love your special person every day of the year and not just one day a year. Plus all the sappiness is a bit much for a gal like me. It’s so over the top sweet it makes me…
wanna hurl.
Don’t get me wrong. I love “love”. I love romantic movies. I love romantic gestures. I just do not quite get why we need to mark it on the calendar like it’s such a hard thing to remember to love the one you’re with. Bugs the crap out me. You should not need a cheesy commercial telling you to buy a gift for your partner. You should just do stuff like that because you love your partner. Honestly if I see one more commercial that makes young folks think they need to spend hordes of money to get their significant other to love them, well, you know the drill…
I think I’m gonna hurl.
I also think it puts too much pressure on people who are not in a relationship. Valentine’s Day is sort of a cruel holiday for single folks. The commercials make people think you are a loser if you’re alone. I say hell to the no. Enjoy being alone while you can. One day you’ll be married with a house full of kids and pets and you won’t even be able to use the loo without being interrupted 10 times. Then you will think back to a time when things were quiet. I love my family but my god man, they are loud. Some days I’d love a little peace and quiet. So if you have that, enjoy it while it lasts. Don’t let the commercials and all the hoopla get to you. It’s all a conspiracy that makes people like me…
wanna hurl!
Okay so now that we’ve got the warm and fuzzies out of the way, enjoy your romantic milkshake for Valentine’s Day. I used one straw, cuz sharing food or drinks…
makes me wanna hurl!
Pretty and perfect Red Velvet Milkshake recipe!
Ingredients
- 2 heaping scoops of chocolate ice cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Red gel food colouring to desired colour
Instructions
- Pop all your ingredients in a blender or magic bullet (my preference) and pulse a few times. I find short bursts work well to break up the ice cream.
- Now give it a good whir.
- Pour into a glass.
- Serve with a big old red velvet smile!
Notes
You could use red velvet ice cream if you like. I have two recipes for it on my blog.
If you want to make this with Red Velvet Ice Cream I have two recipes for it on my site. You can find one that uses cake mix in it. You can also find one that is red velvet with no cake added. I love red velvet ice cream. You can do so much with it.
I participated in #GreatShakes back in June. It was a multi blogger event to help promote a cookbook called Thoroughly Modern Milkshakes by Adam Ried. The one they shipped to me initially seemed to get hung up at customs, so they shipped out another copy. In the meantime the first copy finally arrived. So I ended up with two copies of the book. No one needs two copies of a cookbook so I’ve decided to giveaway my spare copy of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILKSHAKES to 1 lucky reader. I mean it is the week of love and giving right. And I do love all my readers. So it just makes good sense if you ask me. Hurling aside.

That’e one of my faves too.
My daughter adores red velvet in any shape or form!
I feel the same way.
You always put a smile on my face! I agree with every word you said & I see Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to be even more pink and sparkles than I normally am… like I need an excuse
I usually go for Baileys milkshakes, but I’m thinking red velvet is in my future! Looks so pretty too!
Me too. I love pink so I like to post for Valentine’s Day. But I sort of hate Valentine’s Day. Lol!
Oh Bailey’s would be fab!
I agree it is a sad day for those without a Valentine in their lives. I was reading a blog today which said that in the Dominican Republic, the 14th is friendship day as well because there are all sorts of love. I think that is much kinder.
I like the idea of Friendship Day. I just hate holidays that make people feel alone or make people that think they need to spend money they don’t have. Weird little quirk. However I love “love”. I have weird quirks, lol.
My favorite milkshake is vanilla. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Great choice.
my favorite milkshake is plain vanilla
Great choice Nikki.

I can’t blame you on wanting to hurl. I very recently broke up with someone…so I especially want to hurl this year. Not to mention I’m at a time in my life where I know about 2342343 of my facebook friends will be getting engaged on Thursday! Yikes. I’m happy for them…but I still want to hurl.
I’m all about strawberry milkshakes all the way!
Oh you poor dear. Life and love blow sometimes. No way to sugar coat that. I don’t blame you for wanting to hurl. I know so many people love those wedding shows and I look at them and go “saps”. Meanwhile I’m married. Not sure what that says about me. lol
Good choice.
My favorite milkshake is vanilla bean. Happy Valentine’s Day!
Now that sounds super yummy!
My favorite milkshake is a moosetracks milkshake!
Oh my gawd, I love moosetracks. I have a Moosetracks copycat ice cream recipe on my blog if you have an ice cream maker.
I do have a ice cream maker! Yay:) I will be making your moose tracks recipe! I can’t wait! I ate a moose tracks milkshake every morning when I was pregnant! They are AMAZING!
I shall dig up the link. I did it on a guest post for a fellow Canuck friend. I’ll find it tonight and pop it on here.
My first all I wanted was watermelon. My second I could not stand meat to the point of not going anywhere near the meat aisle in the store. Lol!
Oh I can not wait! Thank you for sharing it with me! My daughter loves it too! I might be a little selfish on this one though! I bet homemade Moosetracks is even better! With Ardin, I craved Moosetracks milkshakes every single morning! and also Strawberries and Boiled shrimp mixed together! I know how gross!!!!!
Here’s the ice cream link- http://www.theblackpeppercorn.com/2012/07/copycat-moosetracks-ice-cream-guest-post-from-cravings-of-a-lunatic/
Thank you for all of that link love. You are such a sweetie, all Valentine’s mush aside. I love ya all year long!!
As for milkshakes, I like chocolate peanut butter.
You are most welcome. Send me the recent ones if you have time and I’ll shoot the links into my Lunatic Loves post this Wednesday. Happy to spread the chocolate love.
This seems to be a popular choice.
Just a plain chocolate milkshake– extra thick!!!
Great choice. I add a bit of heavy cream in mine for added thickness. So good.
My favorite milkshake Has got to be peanut butter cup
Peanut butter and chocolate seems to be a very popular choice.
I have many favorite milkshakes, but chocolate malt ranks a little higher
That’s a great choice.
Hahahaaaa so much hurling
My fave milkshake is prob. peanut butter
I know right.
Peanut butter seems very popular.
The only thing I have to say is this recipe definitely does not make me wanna hurl.
Fun post – thanks.
Lol, thanks John.
How plain and boring but my favorite is a vanilla milkshake.
Really enjoyed the sentiments in your post– well said!
Thanks and great classic choice.
My favorite milkshake is peanut butter!
I swear most people seem to be picking peanut butter. Very interesting indeed.
Mint chocolate chip, even though the chips get stuck in the straw!
Great choice. You definitely need a super wide straw for that.
I just love a good chocolate milkshake with a cheeseburger from In N Out burger.
We don’t have In N Out Burger here. I really want to try it though. Chocolate is such a classic.
My favorite milkshake is red velvet!
I love your choice.
I love any milkshake.. any day.
Your my kind of gal.
Thanks, great giveaway! My favorite milkshake is vanilla. Happy Valentine’s Day!!!
A very classic and tasty choice.
I feel the same way about Valentine’s Day – and not just because I’m divorced! But it is a good excuse to eat lots of chocolate, and I’m game for anything like that! My favorite milk shake lately is a white chocolate mocha one. Which sounds sort of random after the last bit, but you asked!
I hear you. It’s just a weird day I think. Like you should only show someone you love them one day a year. Odd.
Oh that sounds yummy. Hope you are doing good lady.
Hahaha. I come from a country where one of our national games is hurling – a different sort to what you describe tho.
I completely agree with you on Valentine’s Day. I’m converting to Generosity Day (next year – I’ve a rake of heartshaped cookies to get through first). You definitely are a romantic at heart – cute milkshake and love the icecream sandwiches.
Lol Hester, I love that kind of hurling.
Thanks so much. I just like the idea of getting to play with red and pink food for a week. *giggles*
My favorite milkshake is the Black Tiger, an espresso milkshake with whipped cream from the late Coffee People chain in Portland, Oregon, although I hear the drink has been kept alive by a coffee shop called Jim & Patty’s run by the originators of Coffee People.
Now that is impressive. It’s great when folks keep good stuff going. Hate to think of a recipe becoming obsolete.
I WANT the recipe for those hearts!! When I click the photo though it just shows the photo only. Any way I can get the link? Love all your Valentine’s Day inspired desserts.
Hey Christy. Thanks for the heads up. None of the links were working properly so I appreciate you letting me know. It is now click friendly. You can also find it by going back one day from this post. I posted the recipe for it the day before this one so it would work if you hit older posts as well. Enjoy! xx
I love blueberry milkshakes with whipped cream!

Chocolate malted milkshake
Excellent choice.

Both of those sound fantastic.
Mmmm………love milkshakes! Mocha is my fav!
But I’m sure that the book will have my trying new flavours!!
Mocha is a great choice. The book has tons of recipes in it.
My favorite flavor of Milkshake is Peppermint
Nice choice. Peppermint is such a cool flavour.
Thanks! It is refreshing!
Chocolate malted.
Fabulous choice.
I love Strawberry Cheesecake shakes!!
