Red Velvet Milkshake Cravings of a Lunatic

I can smell the love in the air. All those romantics are out in full force planning the perfect Valentine's Day. The whole world gets in on the action and romance takes over everyone's brains. It's such a sweet time. Such  romantic time. Such a...

    excuse me while I hurl.

Seriously people it's just a day like any other. You can love your special person every day of the year and not just one day a year. Plus all the sappiness is a bit much for a gal like me. It's so over the top sweet it makes me...

    wanna hurl.

Don't get me wrong. I love "love". I love romantic movies. I love romantic gestures. I just do not quite get why we need to mark it on the calendar like it's such a hard thing to remember to love the one you're with. Bugs the crap out me. You should not need a cheesy commercial telling you to buy a gift for your partner. You should just do stuff like that because you love your partner. Honestly if I see one more commercial that makes young folks think they need to spend hordes of money to get their significant other to love them, well, you know the drill...

    I think I'm gonna hurl.

I also think it puts too much pressure on people who are not in a relationship. Valentine's Day is sort of a cruel holiday for single folks. The commercials make people think you are a loser if you're alone. I say hell to the no. Enjoy being alone while you can. One day you'll be married with a house full of kids and pets and you won't even be able to use the loo without being interrupted 10 times. Then you will think back to a time when things were quiet. I love my family but my god man, they are loud. Some days I'd love a little peace and quiet. So if you have that, enjoy it while it lasts. Don't let the commercials and all the hoopla get to you. It's all a conspiracy that makes people like me...

    wanna hurl!

Okay so now that we've got the warm and fuzzies out of the way, enjoy your romantic milkshake for Valentine's Day. I used one straw, cuz sharing food or drinks...

    makes me wanna hurl!

    Red Velvet Milkshake

Pretty and perfect Red Velvet Milkshake recipe!
    Course Beverage
    Prep Time 5 minutes minutes
    Total Time 5 minutes minutes
    Servings 1 large glass
    Author Kim Beaulieu

    Ingredients

    • 2 heaping scoops of chocolate ice cream
    • ½ cup whole milk
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
    • Red gel food colouring to desired colour

    Instructions

    • Pop all your ingredients in a blender or magic bullet (my preference) and pulse a few times. I find short bursts work well to break up the ice cream.
    • Now give it a good whir.
    • Pour into a glass.
    • Serve with a big old red velvet smile!

    Notes

You could use red velvet ice cream if you like. I have two recipes for it on my blog.

    Red Velvet Milkshake

If you want to make this with Red Velvet Ice Cream I have two recipes for it on my site. You can find one that uses cake mix in it. You can also find one that is red velvet with no cake added. I love red velvet ice cream. You can do so much with it.

I feel the same way about Valentine's Day - and not just because I'm divorced! But it is a good excuse to eat lots of chocolate, and I'm game for anything like that! My favorite milk shake lately is a white chocolate mocha one. Which sounds sort of random after the last bit, but you asked!

I hear you. It's just a weird day I think. Like you should only show someone you love them one day a year. Odd.

Oh that sounds yummy. Hope you are doing good lady.

Hahaha. I come from a country where one of our national games is hurling - a different sort to what you describe tho.

I completely agree with you on Valentine's Day. I'm converting to Generosity Day (next year - I've a rake of heartshaped cookies to get through first). You definitely are a romantic at heart - cute milkshake and love the icecream sandwiches.

Thanks so much. I just like the idea of getting to play with red and pink food for a week. *giggles*

My favorite milkshake is the Black Tiger, an espresso milkshake with whipped cream from the late Coffee People chain in Portland, Oregon, although I hear the drink has been kept alive by a coffee shop called Jim & Patty's run by the originators of Coffee People.

Hey Christy. Thanks for the heads up. None of the links were working properly so I appreciate you letting me know. It is now click friendly. You can also find it by going back one day from this post. I posted the recipe for it the day before this one so it would work if you hit older posts as well. Enjoy! xx
