Simple, quick and perfect for any weekday supper. This Angel Hair Pasta is topped with a shallot, garlic, broccoli and lemon sauce. Light yet tasty, you must try this one!
This recipe is something I've whipped up in various forms over the years. I've made versions with almost every kind of vegetable on earth. This is just one of those simple recipes that's perfect for any week day. It's easy to make and a great 30 Minutes or Less Recipe. Perfect for all you busy people out there.
It's chock full of yumminess. I have a serious weakness for shallots and garlic. I try to use them as often as possible. They're good for you and they just amp up the flavour of any meal. I found some nice broccoli which is one of my fave veggies on earth. There's not a lot of dark green veggies my IBS tolerates but for some reason broccoli does not irritate my tummy. So it's another vegetable I try to throw inside as many meals as possible. I added a dash of fresh lemon juice to this too and well, let's just be honest here, a little lemon in pasta like this one just pops the flavour off the charts.
You can swap out the veggies to your own taste. Whatever you like use it. There's no right or wrong when it comes to your own personal taste. Make it your way, and enjoy the heck out of it. Which is exactly what I did.

Angel Hair Pasta with Shallots, Garlic, Broccoli & Lemon
Ingredients
- 1 package of Angel Hair Pasta
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large shallot diced
- 2 cups broccoli cut into tiny pieces
- 3 large cloves garlic chopped
- ½ cup white wine
- 1 tablespoon butter
- ½ lemon juiced
- ¼ to ½ cup reserved pasta water
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Put a large stock pot of water on the stove over high heat. Bring to a boil. Once it boils salt it generously.
- While you are waiting for the water to boil start getting the rest of the dish together.
- Add the olive oil to a large frying pan. Start to cook over medium heat. Add the shallots. Cook for about 5 minutes so they can soften.
- Now add the broccoli and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes. Stir occasionally so it doesn't stick. If you need more olive oil add a little.
- Now toss in the garlic and cook for another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the white wine and let it cook until it is reduced by half. It should only take a few minutes.
- Add your butter and lemon, stirring till the butter melts and the mixture is slightly saucy. Only takes a few moments.
- Turn the heat down for a couple of minutes while you cook your angel hair noodles.
- Once your pasta water is boiling well, and it's been salted, toss your angel hair pasta in the water. It only needs to cook for about 1 to 2 minutes. Check your package directions.
- Now drain pasta (reserve a little bit, there's flavour in the pasta water) but do not rinse.
- Bring the frying pan back up to a medium heat, add your pasta to the pan and start to toss it gently until it comes together. Add a little pasta water to the pan, it helps bring the dish together beautifully.
- Add some salt and pepper to your own taste.
- Serve with a big old smile!

Kim Beaulieu
Thanks so much Maureen. I really love pasta, I'm such a carb girl. Can't help myself.
Renee
This is one of my favorite ways to eat pasta. I prefer this kind over a red sauce especially during summer. Great quick and tasty weekday supper for sure!
Kim Beaulieu
Thanks so much Renee. I tend to like these types in summer too. It's so cool to change them up according to whatever happens to be in season. I love summer.
Family Foodie
What an awesome and easy recipe Kim! LOVE and can't wait to try it. I love going to the Farmer's Market every Saturday!
Kim Beaulieu
Thanks so much Isabel. I just love pasta with fresh ingredients. Our market is so tiny compared to others, but we have tons of farm stands here too. Usually on Fridays we hop in the car and head to the Leamington area. It's so much fun, we just hit various stands and markets then stop at Point Pelee to play in the water for a bit. We usually stop somewhere for fish n chips too. It's become a weekly summer tradition here.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner (for my supper tonight) 🙂

Ha, I love it Cindy. It's super yummy. I'm eating the leftovers as I type.

Good dish! I actually make something similar, but I use penne (or another substantial tubular shape) so I don't have to cut up the broccoli as much (yes, I'm lazy!). I've also been known to throw in cherry tomatoes or diced red bell pepper. And I usually add a bit of Parmesan as well. One of those great dishes that you really can alter to suit your whim, as you say. Good stuff - thanks.
Kim Beaulieu
I wanted to grate parmesan over top and then realized I was all out. You cannot get good parm in town, that's a trip to the big, bad city. Such a bummer since I love cheese over pasta. I like the idea of penne too. I just picked up a massive bag of it with plans for penne alla vodka. I like the tomato and red pepper idea. I'm a pepper girl but mildly allergic to tomatoes so I have to add hubs into his separately. I can tomato sauces if they're cooked down like mad, but raw tomatoes about kill me. I find this really odd, makes no sense that raw vs cooked makes a difference. It makes me scratch my head and wonder why quite often.

mmmmm yessss shallots and garlic are happiness!
Kim Beaulieu
Exactly. I swear if I could find a way to include them in desserts I would.
Liz
Thank you. Easy-peasy and healthy. Have a great day!

Thanks so much Liz. xx

I'm too much of a carnivore to not add in some grilled chicken, but this looks lovely 🙂
Kim Beaulieu
Ha, I usually am but we try to eat meatless at least once a week. Sometimes twice. I don't think I could ever go fully vegetarian or vegan, but it's nice to mix it up on occasion. I do another version with chicken and heavy lemon, it's divine.
Colette@JFF!
Kimmy, I'm putting this one on the menu for tomorrow nite.
Daisy's gonna love it. oxo
Baker Bettie
Yummmm! That looks perfect just the way it is! I always try to throw broccoli into anything I can too because it is almost the only green vegetable my husband will eat. I'm definitely going to make this for him! Well, for me too 🙂 Pinned!

Sonja
This was great! I found this recipe and your site while trying to dream up ways of using the past-its- prime broccoli I had in the fridge, along with the shallots sitting near my garlic, so perfect! I more or less followed it as written, including your suggestion of cherry tomatoes, which I added along with the garlic. Before serving I topped each mounded plate with freshly ground black pepper, Parmesan and the parsley I'd accidentally chopped up the previous evening, thinking it was cilantro until I smelled it. Note to self: always smell what I think is cilantro or flat leaf parsley *before* chopping.
Anyway, lovely meal, I really enjoy these simple dishes that rely on a nice combination of flavours rather than all kinds of fussing and expense.
Thanks for posting 🙂
