Hello folks. I am back, from outer space, I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face, I should changed my stupid look, I should have......Oh whoops sorry, this is my blog not the karaoke bar. Sorry 'bout that. Got carried away there for a second. I know you are going to hate me by about the middle of the night when you can't get to sleep as that song is now playing over and over in your head. I wonder how many of you will be cursing my name when you can't fall asleep tonight? Go on now go, walk out the door, cause you're not welcome anymore, weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye, did you think I'd crumble, did you think I'd lay down and die, oh no not I, I will survive. *evil laugh*
Okay, okay, so clearly I've had too much pepsi again today. Honestly I think I need help some days. Hyper anonymous, hyper self help groups.
So I made sorbet, yes indeedy I sure did. And let me tell you it's delicious. It surely is. And I did not, I repeat, did not completely trash my kitchen and break some appliances in the process. Nope that was not me, that was my evil twin. She is always causing trouble I swear. Never a dull moment with her. Okay, okay so it was me. I admit it, I trashed the kitchen. I almost broke my brand new food processor. I almost broke my blender.  I had hot syrup from one end of the counter top to the other. I had red sauce all over the floor. I had the sink overflowing with dishes, rags overflowing the garbage. Yup, I am Kim and I had a bad day. It started off all innocent and calm like it always does. Then the lunatic unleashes her fury and bam, chaos ensues. I did the syrup no problem. Easy peasy, even did a lemon squeezy. Seriously I did, I added lemon to it. How many times can you say lemon squeezy and it's actually true? Right? I know, it's amazing how little things amuse me. So I don't have a blender (well actually technically I do but I hate it and it's not stainless so it's an abomination to put it on the counter) or an immersion blender so I thought what the hey, I'd toss it in the food processor and whip it. Well, er, never do this. It did not occur to me it would leak out the hole, all over my counter and floor. I saved some of it by quickly grabbing a bowl. But unfortunately so much of it was lost. And now I and my entire kitchen was sticky. You know how awful that is. So I end up pulling out my hideous, I hate it and want it to stop working blender from the far reaches of my cupboards. I put the liquid in the hideous beast  from hell and turn it on not realizing I have overfilled it. So, yup, you guessed it, it shoots and seeps out the top. Lovely, I had just cleaned up the last mess I made. So I pour some out and have to do it in two batches. Okay no problem. Then it says to sieve it. Er, okay but I only have a tiny sieve made for fairies who make sorbet so now what? I tried sieving it with the fairy sieve. But I just got annoyed. So I lined a colander with paper towel and did it that way. Took awhile but it worked. The sorbet is beautiful, wickedly tangy and I love it. So I can cope with the sticky sound my foot makes when I walk in the kitchen for now. I'm distracted with sugary goodness so I don't care that everything still feels sticky even though I've cleaned three times.
So the moral of today's story. Always be prepared. I know, I know, that's the boy scout motto. But it applies here. And just about anywhere if you really think about it. Those darn boy scouts are little hand kerchiefed, badged up. cap wearing geniuses. Make sure you always read the instructions all the way through. Make sure you have the proper tools for the job. And for pete's sake buy a sieve. And a shiny stainless blender. Or just buy your sorbet at the store. Save a big mess and a whole lot of trouble.
So here ya go. This recipe is yummilicious. I had a hard time taking photos today as I kept eating it right out of the machine while my pretty styling props had melted sorbet leaking out of it.
Red Berry Messy Kitchen Sorbet:
Ingredients:
2 cups water
1 ½ cups sugar
Pinch salt
½ teaspoon lemon juice
2 cups raspberries
2 cups strawberries, hulled
Directions:
Combine your water and sugar in a saucepan and cook over medium to low heat until sugar dissolves. This is your simple syrup.
Once syrup in prepared add salt and berries and lemon juice.
Now put them in a blender (NOT YOUR FOOD PROCESSOR) or use an immersion blender to mix it up.
Strain mixture through a mesh strainer.
Stick in the fridge for 2 to 3 hours.
Now transfer mixture into your ice cream maker and turn on. Mix for 15 to 20 minutes.
You can either serve immediately, or put in freezer until ready to serve.
Looks good right!
So that is it for this week. I sure hope you like everything. Stop by next sunday and there will be more. I love ice cream folks, just the way it is. I mean who does not love ice cream. It's so good. Enjoy it while summer is still here.
See you tomorrow. I have a pretty cool recipe for you tomorrow. So excited to share. Hope the week treats you well. Eat like there is no tomorrow folks, life is to be enjoyed. All the better with a big bowl of ice cream.
Toodles and smoochies. xx

I'm making vanilla ice cream even as we speak!!!! Except it's Tuesday! I notice you haven't made any nearly as boring a flavour! We're having it on pancakes tonight with cream and golden syrup. Should be fab. 🙂 I'll try out some of your recipes soon. My vanilla is a rich vanilla recipe. It's yellow? Not sure if it should be that! It's got eggs, and I used chooky eggs from my chooks, so the yolks were yellow. 🙂 Hope it's gonna taste good. I'll let you know. I MIGHT even take a photo!

Oooh, Kimbee, that is such an evil post! I love it, love ice cream, love sorbet, love that stupid song so much I sang along. Love you too, my wonderful lunatic friend! I have had that same sticky feeling in the kitchen, problem being I cook barefooted and it's even worse when it is your foot making the sticky noises. LOL

Seriously, Kim, you are amazing! First, this sorbet is astonishing beautiful and looks so delicious! Second, you are the coolest mom on the planet (referring to your last post). Way to go spending the last few weeks of summer with your kids. I love it! Third, your fairy sieve?? So funny!! Lastly, sugary goodness makes up for so many kitchen floor messes. Yes? You are so cute! Have a great day!!

In the food processor...yikes, sounds like something that I have done (maybe more than once).

I love your last paragraph and the fact you seem to be as crazy about ice cream/frozen goodies as me! My mouth is watering... think I'll go have a bowl of ice cream right now!

That sorbet looks amazing Kim! Great round up of other ice cream recipes too. I didnt get around to buying an ice cream maker this summer like I wanted to. I need to keep my eye out for end of summer sales on them!

Hey Kim, Love this - the sorbet looks so delicious and so easy to make. I think we're kindred spirits in the kitchen. No matter how easy my recipe is I make a mess. I use every bowl I have and every fork, spoon or knife in the drawer, there's flour and sugar all over the counter and me, and my 'robot' appliances are all lined up and ready for duty (I never know which one will work). That's why I love to cook - only once a week :).
Thanks for sharing, I just might have to buy an ice cream machine to add to my collection.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? Apart from the fact that sorbet is something too delicious to pass up, we feel we ought to make it at least once out of respect for the trouble you went to to bring us this recipe and this hilarious post. Hope you get a new blender soon!

Ha! Poor Kim. You sound like me. I just made a huge disaster in my kitchen and have no desire to clean it up! But despite the disasters you had, your sorbet looks really good!
