Red Velvet Sweet Rolls are the perfect breakfast, brunch or dessert recipe for any occasion!

Oh baby, these Red Velvet Sweet Rolls are so freaking amazing. The dough for this is a staple recipe I use for a ton of my recipes. It's made in the bread machine so it's super easy.

If you don't have a bread machine you can adapt this recipe and make dough in your mixer or food processor. The biggest change will be swapping bread machine yeast out for instant yeast if you go that route.

Red Velvet Sweet Rolls with an extra drizzle of icing.

I love using my bread machine for dough. I probably have it whirring up a storm 3 or 4 times per week. Most of the time I use it for pizza dough. On occasion I also use it for dough for sweet rolls, and hot cross buns.

Bread machines are something I think everyone should invest in. Not only can you make bread in them but they work awesome for dough for baking and for pasta. Honestly it's the small appliance that ties with my stand mixer in terms of money well spent.

Red Velvet Sweet Rolls are the perfect breakfast or brunch recipe for any occasion.

You can also find the recipe for these scrumptious Red Velvet Sweet Rolls over at Real Housemoms. You're going to want to make this as soon as possible. In fact you should probably run into the kitchen right now and get crackalacking on these.

This was my last contributor post to Real Housemoms. So this is the last time I'll be asking you to click over there for a recipe. I know a lot of blog readers really dislike having to click away for recipes. Sometimes it's unavoidable, particularly if working with companies.

Red Velvet Sweet Rolls are perfect served for breakfast or brunch.

The big reason for leaving was my health. My regulars likely noticed I haven't been posting as much over the last few months. I've had some serious health issues I've been dealing with. So keeping up with everything became impossible.

I made the tough decision to give up an extra work that was pulling my focus away from my health and my own blogs. Any contributor posts that were volunteer positions, and not paid gigs, had to be the first to go.

Red Velvet Sweet Rolls that are baked to perfection and ready to serve!

It took me some time to get up the courage to start putting myself first. I'm not good at it. I am a people pleaser by nature, so having to quit jobs was extremely difficult for me. Yet with health concerns continuing to loom I had absolutely no choice.

So I put on my big girl panties and walked away from 3 part-time gigs. It was so hard for me but I know it has already reduced my stress level considerably. If I have a bad health day it only affects me now, I'm not letting anyone else down. That's huge for me right now.

    Ingredients

For the dough: 1 ½ cups milk

    • 1 egg beaten
    • ¼ cup butter
    • ½ cup sugar
    • 1 ¼ teaspoon salt
    • 3 ¾ cups all purpose flour
    • 5 teaspoons cocoa powder
    • ¼ cup chocolate chips
    • 2 to 4 drops of red gel food colouring
    • 1 ¼ teaspoon of bread machine yeast

    For the filling:

    • ½ cup butter melted slightly
    • ¼ cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

    For the glaze:

    • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
    • 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Instructions

    For the dough and filling:

    • Add everything in order into your bread machine mixing bowl. Turn the machine on the dough setting. Allow it to do its thing. Mine take 90 minutes from start to finish.
    • Line a pan round or square baking tin, or even a pie plate with parchment, and spray with non-stick spray. Set aside.
    • Once you dough is finished, pull out of the machine, and roll it out on a floured surface so it becomes a rectangle. You can decide on thickness of the dough, personally I like mine a wee bit thinner than most people like it.
    • Spread the butter over the top evenly, keeping it about an inch away from the edges. Now spread on the sugar, then sprinkle on the cinnamon and nutmeg.
    • Start to roll the long edge as tightly as can so it becomes a long tube like shape. You can use water or a bit of egg wash on the edges to seal them if you like. I rarely do because I pack my pan enough that they stay intact. You can also pinch the edges. That works well too.
    • Now cut about 12 to 15 pieces, it will completely depend how you roll your dough.
    • Place in the pan, and also to rise up for about 30 to 40 minutes.
    • Preheat oven to 350 minutes.
    • Place pan in the oven and allow to bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until the tops start to brown. Remove and allow to cool if you're capable of resisting the urge to eat them hot.

    For the glaze:

    • Mix all the ingredients together by whisking until smooth. You can add more milk if needed. Everyone likes their glaze a bit differently. Never sweat the small stuff.
    • Pour the glaze over the rolls. Then try not to devour the entire batch.
    • Enjoy with a big old sweet roll loving smile.

    Notes

Please keep in mind this recipe is mostly inactive time. Hands on prep time is only a few minutes.
Basically it will play out like this:
5 to 10 minutes hands on prep.
    90 minutes in bread machine.
5 to 10 minutes hands on prep.
    30 minutes rise time.
5 to 10 minutes hands on prep.
25 to 30 minutes in oven.
5 to 10 minutes hands on prep to glaze.
Hope that helps you plan your time for making these!

Red Velvet Sweet Rolls are baked in the oven then slathered with yummy icing.

You know, i JUST had an unexpected two week break from work & the blog since I was having some pain on the right hand side below my rib cage and above my tummy... at already 25 weeks pregnant I was worried that I was having gallbladder issues, and it was a little scary. I felt guilty for not blogging and being at home sleeping on and off and trying to figure out what was wrong. After two weeks we figured out it was a severely pinched nerve and I'm doing physio etc... you're right... health is #1. I had to let a few things go, but now I feel back at it and ready to take it all on again!

Thanks for the post! I will be making these delicious sweet treats this weekend for the family!

      Cheers!

These look divine and thrilled that you used a breadmaker, heading over to check out the recipe. Dough is about the only reason I use my bread machine, but I'll never get rid of mine for just that reason...in fact, I just took on another one that someone doesn't want!

I'm happy for you to think about you. I know as moms it's super hard to do that and even more so when you're an overall people pleaser, like yourself. But you have done it! I'm always interested in new bread ideas and these red velvet rolls look divine! I've been thinking about you this week. Sending you hugs for many reasons. xx

I never new red velvet yeast rolls were a thing but I'm so happy you clued me in. When it comes to bread machines I've avoided getting one for a long time because I know I'll use it way more than I should. Carbs are my thing and these days so are fat pants! Hats off to you girl for putting yourself first, you deserve it!

I laughed so hard over your fat pants reference. I'm such a carb girl so I can totally relate. You really need a bread machine. They are great time savers. I use mine a lot for bread dough, pizza dough, and pasta dough. No kneading required which works for me because I'm totally lazy. Ha. I used to have two bread machines. I know, it's crazy right. But my kids always had friends over all the time so I was feeding the entire neighbourhood.

You have to make these. You will LOVE them. Red Velvet ALL THE THINGS!!!
