These Stuffed Chocolate Hot Cross Buns are made with chocolate dough, then stuffed with chocolate and caramel.

Happy Easter! Sorry these are up so late. My life is chaos lately. Or always. Whatever. It is what it is. I am a hot mess. But I can cook my tush off. So it makes up for my lack of organization. Hopefully.

I've mentioned before how much we love hot cross buns. Our absolute favourite recipe is my Chocolate Hot Cross Buns. My daughter goes crazy for them.

They were the result of a happy accident many moons ago. I was experimenting with a recipe and got the timing all wrong. The result of that happy accident turned out to be my daughter's favourite recipe of all time.

I was making the regular chocolate hot cross buns one day and it occurred to me I should try stuffing them with caramel and chocolate. That was the moment I truly knew I have the "more is better" gene.

If chocolate is good, then more chocolate is better. If caramel is good, then more caramel is better. If making one batch of hot cross buns is good, then making 3 batches is better. It's just how my mind works.

The last time I made hot cross buns I made traditional, chocolate and stuffed chocolate. No one needs that many hot cross buns. But when does need mean anything when it comes to baking. Am I right?

You can also check these out on Food Fanatic. I'm their chocolate fanatic. So take a peek at these over there, they have dubbed them Chocolate Caramel Hot Cross Buns. I totally dig that name.

Look at that beautiful dough! Pop all the ingredients in a bread machine on the dough setting and 90 minutes later you have gorgeous dough. Then you just divide it up and let it rise.

I pressed chocolate chips and caramel bits into the dough after it was done rising. You could mix it up and make yours with chocolate and marshmallows. Get creative and have fun with the process. Baking is suppose to be fun!

Then you just squish the edges up and enclose all the yummy good stuff inside. Sort of like a pizza pocket but instead of cheese you have oodles of chocolate and caramel. Because stuffing chocolate rolls with caramel and more chocolate is ALWAYS a good idea.

I make sure I pinch the dough all nice and tight. It's easier than it sounds. You just manipulate the dough until you can't see any chocolate or caramel peeking out. Sort of like hide and seek. But with yummy stuff.

See, it's all pretty and smooth. And no botox to achieve that look either. Score.

You MUST try these. As soon as possible!

I was piping icing on the buns and thinking about my daughter. So I got a little crazy with this one. Then I saved this one for her as a joke. It's how we roll in our household.

There are some photos of ooey, gooey, dripping caramel but in my rush to get this up I cannot seem to locate them. I shall pop them up once I dig them up.

In the meantime, Happy Easter! xx

YES my dear your cooking makes up for ALL!!! Especially this very unique hot cross buns. I like hot cross buns, but don't go out of my way for them. These are different and I would go out of my way.
