Hi folks.
Okay so yes you read the title right!
No I am not kidding!
I think Kristen should guest post here every single day!
That's totally doable right Kristen?
Yah I thought so!
So, I have none other than the amazing, delightful, wonderful, brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and bootilicious Kristen from Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker guest swapping with me today. And yes I just called Kristen bootilicious. She said she might make these for me when we meet at a conference next week so step back while I work my magic to ensure these Turtle Sweet Rolls find their way into mah bellah next week. Did I mention she's a total goddess too?! Totally true and word has it she has enough baking pans to make a couple batches of these suckers so I'm not letting up any time soon. Kristen did I tell you how much I love you today. Cuz I totally do. Like a lot. Like to the moon and back. Moons look a little like Turtle Sweet Rolls don't ya think? I heard if you make a friend 3 batches of Turtle Sweet Rolls you will win a million dollars. Seriously, it was on the news or something just yesterday. Apparently if you make 4 batches you are guaranteed to have luck for life. I heard that on the news too.
Ya, so you know Kristen already. I mean who doesn't? She is totally incredible. And patient. And understanding. And I love her. And this has nothing to do with the 5 dozen Turtle Sweet Rolls she's bringing me next week. I have had some, let's call them "life issues" of late. I had arranged with the amazing Kristen to swap with her. Then I proceeded to forget it was a swap and was gabbing with her about her "guest post". At no point did she reference my blonde hair or make me feel like a complete doofus. So she has won my heart forever. I mean who forgets these things. In all fairness life has been nuts. I'll share why with you in tomorrow's post. Hopefully it will shed some light on why I've been awol from other blogs. Anyhow Kristen knew what has been going on so she was completely sweet (like the 6 dozen Turtle Sweet Rolls she is bringing me next week) and did not make me feel like a total loser. So thank you Kristen. I also should apologize for my guest post now. I am off my game lately and my writing is lacking its usual brilliance (I think calling myself brilliant should totally get me 7 dozen Turtle Sweet Rolls, just sayin') so I am so sorry for that. I may at some point during my post have compared Kristen to a pickup truck (wtf) and I can only apologize greatly for what was quite possibly the worst analogy I've ever made. I blame the puppy, Malia made me do it. Okay that's a lie. I did offer to rewrite it but I think Kristen has some vendetta against me or something cuz she's posting it even though I called her a muddy pickup truck (again wtf). Seriously girlfriend, where's the love? I expected it to come back with red circles all over it. So since you feel the need to let me humiliate myself further (ya cuz that never happens any other day) I think I should get 8 dozen Turtle Sweet Rolls. I mean it's only fair.
Okay so read this post first then hop on over to Kristen's to watch me make a complete fool of myself. My only saving grace is I made Reese's Popcorn. Yup, you heard that right too. Popcorn smothered in peanut butter and chocolate. Ah so now you all want me to compare you to pickup trucks too. What a crazy bunch that frequent the asylum. Okay so here's Kristen before I continue rambling on and on and on.... aren't the blog owners suppose to make their greeting snappy during guest posts? Honestly someone slap me. Then give me 9 dozen Turtle Sweet Rolls.

I feel sort of like Dorothy when she gets to OZ and starts walking down that big hall. I am wide eyed and hesitant and feeling the walls to make sure they are real...except that they aren't... not only because this is cyberspace, but also because this is the ASYLUM! {insert scary laughter} Kim and I have swapped blogs today. She's enjoying a little virtual vacation in Florida before her real vacation in Florida next week. I am SO excited that she is coming down for the Food Bloggers Forum in Orlando on the 16th. And I am particularly happy that I got to do this post before she meets the real me. I'd hate for the honeymoon to be over before it even began!
Oh, did I forget to introduce myself? Sorry. I am Kristen, from Frugal Antics of a Harried Homemaker. That “harried” part might just as well read air-brained, although my memory has improved greatly thanks to that calendar feature thingy on my phone that keeps ringing to remind me to do things. I need to change the ring tone, though, because I keep answering it and saying “hello” when it goes off. Someday {looks vaguely off into the distance}, I hope to know as much about my phone as my teenage sons.
In honor of Kim and her love of all things turtle, I brought some with me. But first there are a few things you should know about me. I am frugal first and foremost in almost everything I do. Second, I cannot leave a recipe alone, but if I cannot find a recipe to change around, I am not afraid to make one up. And that's what these Turtle Rolls are: an inexpensive idea that turned out pretty darned good. I hope you like them, Kim.
Ingredients
- 1 ¾ cups Bisquick
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- ¾-1 cup evaporated milk regular will do
- filling:
- 4 tsp sweetened condensed milk
- ⅓ cup semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 Tbsp chopped pecans
- icing:
- 24 caramel candies unwrapped
- 2 Tbsp evaporated milk regular will do
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the Bisquick, cocoa and sugar until well blended.
- Add the milk until a fairly stiff dough forms.
- Roll the dough out on a floured surface to a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
- Spread the dough with sweetened condensed milk and then sprinkle evenly with chocolate chips and pecans.
- Roll up and slice into 12 rolls.
- Place into a greased 9 inch round pan.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 18-20 minutes.
- Remove from oven to cool.
- While the rolls are cooling, place caramels and 2 Tbsp milk into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, stir.
- If the mixture is not smooth, heat it for 30 seconds more.
- Spoon the caramel deliciousness over each roll.
- There will be enough to totally smother them or to lightly drizzle them with caramel according to your tastes.
Thanks, Kim, for letting me visit the cold north today. I had a lot of fun. Don't forget to bring lots of sunscreen on your trip!
