Hey folks. Back from a day at the gourmet market in the city. So much fun. Found lots of fun stuff. Had a ball. Will post pics tomorrow for "Farm Fresh Friday". Also hit Walmart for some things I needed and a couple things I didn't. Was on a strict budget today as my hubby's work thought they didn't have to pay him this week as the office is on shutdown. He worked but apparently payroll missed that fact. So annoying. One trip to the Union Hall and an appointment with the office manager for monday and hopefully we get this straightened out. He has been shorted pay for about 3 weeks now. So we're missing in the neighbourhood of thousand buckaroos. So while he's back working part time after he's done school, instead of getting ahead we're behind. Go figure!! Ford Motor Company not so smart, honestly how hard is it to figure this stuff out. People work, they get compensated. Duh!Anyhow got off on a rant there. So he called me and told me to go easy at the market but my cart was already full and I had already blown my normal budget. This market has stuff I never see here in town. So of course me being me, I adjusted the regular grocery bill instead so I could still get everything I wanted at the market. I mean I can cut back on bread and milk right? Balsamic and oils and fruits and veggies so much  more important. As we were talking on the phone and he is saying "okay Kim do not go overboard, I can't get this straightened out until monday at the earliest.", I am  saying hold on a sec C (my hubby is C'Paul, but I call him C due to laziness)  I gotta ask this guy something, I grab the worker and proceed to have him show me where vanilla beans are. As my hubby listens the guy says "here they are ma'am, is one okay?" to which I reply "oh heck no give me three". I pick the phone back up and swear I actually heard my hubby shake his head.  Yah so I lost it a little. When my daughter, Kiana is with me she dials me back. She was home sick today so I kind of came unglued. I spent twice my normal market dough. So ya, grocery bill is now cut by 25%. Luckily my hubby is pretty easy going (otherwise I'd be married to someone else, lol) and knows after years of not going in there that he should probably cut me some slack. I mean $60 instead of $30 still is not too bad. I got 5 oils and vinegars. So score for me. And vanilla beans. Double score. And fruits and veggies. It's a hat trick people. Who could be mad at a hat trick.
I have a Walmart story I am posting to my other blog later so be sure to hop over there. Really funny. Always have fun at Walmart. Did you know I was a deal hunter? I even use coupons. I forgot them but I still scored shaving cream for a buck. So I bought 16. I would have bought more but didn't want to see like a lunatic. I get home and Kiana shakes her head. Apparently 16 still makes you look like lunatic. Who knew?
Okay, okay so enough crazy ramblings. I made strawberry banana ice cream yesterday. I wanted to wait for the sun today though to get some good photos. So here it is folks, enjoy and don't hate me cuz I rock hard in the kitchen. I cannot help my fabulosity, it's a gift.
Strawberry Banana Ice Cream: (I apologize for no banana in the pic but the brood ate them all)
*Adapted from the strawberry recipe in Cuisinart Book*
Ingredients:
3 to 4 bananas, I used 4 but quite honestly 3 would be better
1 ½ cups fresh strawberries, hulled
â…” cup sugar
¾ cup whole milk
Pinch of salt
1 ½ cups of heavy cream, to us Canucks that means whipping cream, impossible to find heavy cream in Ontario
1 + ½ teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Place bananas and strawberries in a food processor. If you don't have one shop by hand.
In your food processor pulse the strawberries and bananas until chopped finely.
Set aside.
Now add milk, sugar and salt in a bowl and whisk. You can use a stand mixer with whisk attachment.
Now add the whipping cream and vanilla and fold in. If using a stand mixer just mix on low for a couple of minutes.
Now you can add the strawberry and banana mixture you set aside. Just let it mix for a minute or two.
Now cover the bowl with foil or plastic wrap and stick in the fridge for at least 2 hours. (I use an elastic to keep it tight)
Remove from fridge and pour into ice cream maker bowl. (THIS BOWL MUST BE FROZEN AHEAD OF TIME, DO LIKE I DO AND JUST LEAVE IT IN THE FREEZER ALL THE TIME SO IT'S ALWAYS READY TO ROCK N ROLL)
Turn on and let the machine mix it for about 15 to 20 minutes. It should be thickened when ready.
It should be ready to eat now or if serving later stick it in the freezer. Just remember to take it out 10 or 15 minutes before serving so it is easier to scoop out.
Serve with a smile.
Toodles and smoochies my lovely readers. xx |

Anne- I know right!! I am sure it will. Been a hard couple years with him school so didn`t need this hassle. But I refuse to let it ruin my day. As observed by my day of grocery shopping.Lol! Thanks so much for your sweet comments. I have a couple of ah-masing recipes to post over the next couple of days.
Chef Dennis- Okay so excuse a girl while she swoons a bit. I am honoured you popped by. This market is gourmet city, stuff I cannot get in my small town. It is so much fun. Might hit the downtown farmers market next week. Thanks for the compliment, any time you are in Ontario you are welcome to come for dinner. I always make a rocking dessert too.
