This Watermelon Jalapeño Cocktail recipe is the perfect thirst quencher for summer. Grab a fresh watermelon and mix up this easy but delicious cocktail!

Welcome to Day 4 of Booze Week. I am on staycation, and enjoying some much needed time with family this week. So I asked some of my favourite bloggy peeps to guest post for me.

Today I have the pleasure of welcoming my friend Stacy of Food Lust People Love to the blog. Stacy is an amazing blogger, and more importantly a wonderful friend. I adore her and she always makes me smile with her positive attitude.

Stacy is wicked talented in the kitchen, and amazingly supportive of her fellow bloggers in her free time. I heart her. You will too.

Howdy, Lunatics! So very pleased to be meeting you here in the crazy house of Kim for the first time. My name is Stacy and, like Kim, I started my blog in 2011 without knowing what on earth that meant.

Cravings of a Lunatic was one of the first blogs I found as I got deeper into this community of online foodies and it was love at first post. Kim’s great sense of humor and honest patter tickle me but her pretty photographs and tasty recipes keep me coming back for more.

She is the master at organizing blog hops and events like Christmas Week and I’ve been honored to participate in several this past year, so it is my pleasure to make and drink a cocktail on her behalf for Booze Week. Hey, it’s a huuuuge sacrifice, but I would do anything for my friend, Kim!

I’ve been asked more than a few times how I came up with my blog name, Food Lust People Love. Right up there with food is my love of language. I’m kind of a word geek, with whole shelves on my bookcase devoted to books about the English language, its derivations, word etymologies, idioms and euphemisms.

As devoted as I am to the correctly written word, I also like mixing things up. So, in Food Lust People Love, the nouns Food and People are actually used as adjectives, modifying the words Lust and Love. Too much grammar? Well, then, lets just say that my blog is called Food Lust People Love because we can Lust after fabulous Food but it’s People we should Love. And the best way to love them is just like my Cajun grandmothers did, by cooking for them.

Just one more bit of trivia: I’m a career expat, having lived in innumerable countries around the globe and on six of the seven continents. It’s my goal someday, to get to the last one, Antarctica, even if I can’t really live there. I’m American by birth but a lot of the international living has rubbed off on my edges so you’ll find a great mix of food and cultures in my recipe box.

Today I am pleased to share a refreshing concoction I make with sweet Texas watermelons and farm fresh jalapeños. And since we are celebrating Booze Week, you know it’s going to have some tequila in there.

Kim’s instructions said, “Get crazy,” so I did! Growing up in the South, I learned to put salt on my watermelon and eat it with a sharp knife straight out of the rind. The salt brings out the sweetness in the watermelon somehow so I’ve also added a little bit to this summer drink.

It’s hot, cold, sweet and salty, in the best possible way. Hope you find it as refreshing as we do!

    Ingredients

    • 6 pound watermelon preferably seedless
    • 1 fresh jalapeño or to taste
    • 4 ounce tequila
    • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
    • Ice

    Optional Garnish:

    • watermelon wedges sliced jalapeño and flakey sea salt, if desired, but highly recommended

    Instructions

    • Cut your watermelon off the rind and into small chunks. (Remove the seeds if you couldn’t find a seedless one.)
    • Finely mince the piece of jalapeño.
    • Put the watermelon and jalapeño in the blender. Add the tequila and salt and top with ice.
    • Blend until smooth and frothy.
    • Pour into pretty glasses.
    • Garnish with a watermelon wedge and one thin slice of jalapeño, to alert your guests that this will be spicy.
    • Add an extra sprinkle of flakey sea salt, if desired.
    • Put the pitcher in the freezer between servings. It’s even better when it gets a little frozen.
    • Enjoy!
