Just because the world is ending and there’s walkers everywhere that’s no excuse not to entertain in style. Lock the doors, turn out the lights and sip this Walker Blood Sangria. A little wine, a little pomegranate juice and you’ve got a party.
Welcome to Dead Eats: Recipes Inspired by The Walking Dead. Myself and Dionne of Try Anything Once joined forces to share our obsessive love of all things TWD. We’re hosting a week long event sharing recipes from our favourite TV Show, The Walking Dead.
This week is shaping up to be so much fun. We’ve been whipping up recipes inspired by The Walking Dead and having a blast doing it. There’s been lots of giggling going on when me and Dionne send each other notes and photos of what we’re making. I mean how can anyone not have fun while making recipes inspired by their favourite TV show.
I’ve been watching old episodes like crazy. I’m not sure if I told you this already, but I’ve seen all the seasons 15 times now. I watch it obsessively. One of the perks of working from home is I can have the TV playing in the background while I work. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it’s certainly an enjoyable thing!
I’m watching Season Two again right now. The one where Rick and Shane fight. Wait? They fight in every episode, don’t they? Okay, let’s clarify. It’s the one where they get in a fistfight over whether to leave Randall at the school, 18 Miles Out. I think this is the episode where I realized how much foreshadowing goes on in the show.
The scene where Shane sees himself in the window gets me every time. You know what’s coming down the road. Which worries me for future episodes. I mean when Glenn with the bat scenes, I can barely take it. I adore the character and want him to stick around for a long, long time. Pizza boy turned superhero, he’s a great character.
I think at this point everyone knows my favourite character is Daryl. I can’t help myself. There’s something about the redneck with a heart of gold that just sucks you right into the story. I did not expect to get this hooked on a TV show. I’ve never been this obsessed with a show before. I blame Daryl. Completely.
I know right. If you’re going to have a cocktail, you’re going to share it with Daryl. I know I would. And did. Or least I did in my head. One day maybe I’ll share a drink with him for real. A girl has to dream. Big.
This drink is super easy to make. Perfect for a Walking Dead Party. Or a Halloween Party. Or just class it up a little and serve it for Thanksgiving or Christmas. This is one I make often. It’s very similar to my Pomegranate Punch.
Places to stalk Cravings of a Lunatic!
- 1 (750 ml) bottle of wine, I used Merlot
- 2 cups pomegranate juice
- ¼ cup Cointreau, or any orange liqueur (you can also substitute orange juice)
- 2 cups sparkling water
- 2 cups ice, if desired, you can alway freeze wine cubes ahead of time
- 1 to 2 cups pomegranate arils
- 1 to 2 oranges, sliced
- Pour the Merlot in a pitcher, add the pomegranate juice and the Cointreau, stir well.
- Put the mixture in the fridge for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight.
- Remove the mixture from the fridge and add the sparkling water. Stir well. Add ice if desired.
- If serving for a holiday that isn't Halloween or Walking Dead related I would add some pomegranate arils and sliced oranges for garnish.
- Serve with a big old Sangria loving smile!
