This Brownie Batter Smoothie recipe is so simple to make and always a hit with kids for breakfast or a quick snack.

I love it when a plan comes together. I love that plan even more if it involves chocolate.

This plan happened to involve chocolate brownie mix. I don't know about you, but any day that involves spooning chocolate brownie batter into smoothies is a good day in my book.

My intention was to post a super healthy smoothie for my readers. Then, my youngest son had his wisdom teeth pulled.

Honestly, my son is a lot like me, he tends to eat like truck driver. So, having oral surgery has not done him any favours.

If I'm being honest, he has trouble keeping weight on. That's where these smoothies come in.

When smoothie making day came around I decided a more indulgent recipe would be better for him. So, I asked him what he wanted and he quickly requested chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.

So, this brownie batter smoothie idea was born out his desire for chocolate and my need to keep some meat on his bones. He got his chocolate fix, I made off with the second glass,  and we were happy little campers the rest of the day.

I promise I'll post a fruit inspired smoothie soon to make up for it. I can't promise I won't toss chocolate in with the fruit.

    Ingredient Notes:

    • Milk - You can use any milk or milk substitute you love for this recipe. I've used 2% milk, almond milk, oat milk, soy milk and protein drinks for this smoothie recipe. They all worked really well. If you can find chocolate flavored milk or protein drinks it adds extra oomph.
    • Brownie Mix - For this recipe, I just added dry brownie mix to the smoothie. It mixes well and tastes great. You can also add dry hot cocoa mix if you don't have brownie mix.
    • Extract - Personally, I love almond extract combined with chocolate. You could also use vanilla extract or chocolate extract. Or leave the extracts out entirely.

How to Make Brownie Batter Smoothies:

    1. Add all the ingredients to a blender.
    2. Start blending on pulse setting for about 30 seconds, then increase to high speed and mix for a couple of minutes.
    3. Transfer the smoothies to glasses.
    4. Serve.

    Instructions

    • Combine ingredients in a blender and pulse for 30 seconds. Then, increase to high speed and let the magic happen. I suggest letting it mix for about 2 minutes to make sure the brownie mix breaks up really well. You want the mixture to be smooth.
