Today’s post is a bit different. I’m sharing a recipe, plus a little story about something a bit off topic. But I felt it was an important story to share with you.

Many of you may remember me sharing the tale of my hairdresser turning my green this summer. I know right. It was horrifying. Needless to say I was quite upset. She fixed it but fixing that kind of mistake is hard on your hair. So I spent the next 6 weeks deep conditioning.

Here’s where things gets more interesting. I gave her the benefit of the doubt it was a simple mistake, and went back. Well, she turned my hair green again. Not even kidding. Seriously, she turned it green a second time. I had to go back and have it corrected again.

At this point my hair was damaged from her having to correct her mistake. My hair became dry and coarse to the touch. Not how anyone wants to describe their hair.

While I colour my hair, I am super careful about how I take care of it. I avoid things that damage it at all costs. I only blow dry mine about once a week, same with straightening it. I use good quality products and avoid the sun.

Yet my hair was now damaged. So it seemed fitting when Hairfinity contacted me about doing a review. I wanted people to know more about what happened, and to learn there are ways to help promote hair growth.

So I tried this product and am loving the results. I’m still in the process of fixing the damage to my hair but it’s come a long way since it was put through the wringer. I plan to continue using this product. So far the results have been amazing.

This week I switched back to my old hairdresser. He had been travelling out of the country for an extended period of time. He is finally back so I popped in to have him try to undo some more damage and do some colour correction. He did a fabulous job.

I actually feel horrible about moving on but at some point you have to. If it had happened only once I’d be willing to let it go, but twice is just not okay. I did not want to risk a third visit, especially before travelling for business.

I think the most upsetting thing about this whole experience is that I’ve always felt like my hair was the one thing about my appearance I can control. I have IBS so my body never feels in my control. But my hair was one thing I could be proud of. Until it turned green. Then not so much.

I decided I wanted to share my green, damaged hair story with you. I also wanted to share this Hairfinity product review with you. This is a product that came highly recommended from a friend who had been using it. I can now say I fully trust and believe in this product, and want to sing its praises.

Another purpose of this post is to share a little FYI about vitamins and minerals that can help make your hair awesome. So I whipped up this recipe to share one that uses one of those things. If you are looking to improve your hair’s health I suggest you try the Hairfinity product, then try adding some new foods to your diet that contain hair boosting nutrients.

Protein goes a long way to strong, healthy hair. Without protein your hair can become brittle and weak.  I am a serious protein girl so this was good news for me. Iron, Vitamin C, Omega-3, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Biotin, plus Zinc and Selenium are all also super important to healthy, strong hair. Foods rich in any or all of these will help improve your hair’s condition.

Since I’m such a protein girl I thought I’d share a carnivore recipe with you. For those who don’t know I also have a grilling blog called Kiss My Smoke. There are lots of protein recipes on that blog. I usually share grilling recipes over there but today is special, and this recipe is special. So I’m sharing it here to help promote a protein rich diet to go hand in hand with taking Hairfinity. Hope you enjoy!

Flank Steak with Chipotle Butter

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes
Servings 2 pounds of Flank Steak

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Flank Steak
  • 1/4 cup Italian Dressing
  • Juice of 1/2 orange
  • 2 tablespoons adobo sauce
  • 3 to 5 chipotle peppers
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and White Pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 3 chipotle peppers diced finely

Instructions

  • In a bowl combine the Italian Dressing, juice of 1/2 orange, adobo sauce, chipotle peppers, garlic salt, minced garlic, smoked paprika, salt and white pepper. Whisk until combined.
  • Place the flank steak in a container or shallow casserole pan, pour the liquid over top. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  • Remove from fridge, discard juices. Pat steak dry then sprinkle with brown sugar, on both sides. Allow steak to sit for about 20 minutes to warm up. Never grill a cold steak.
  • While the steak is sitting, go fire up your grill. Let it preheat. Reduce to a medium high heat.
  • Place steak on grill, cook to desired doneness for your own taste. We like ours around a medium to medium rare so I cooked mine for about 5 minutes on each side. You can increase or decrease this time for you own taste.
  • Remove from the grill and allow to stand for at least 5 minutes for the juices to redistribute.
  • During that time make your compound butter. Place the softened butter and finely diced chipotle peppers in a food processor or stand mixer. Pulse until combined.
  • While the steak is still hot slather some of that chipotle butter all over the top of the steak. You're going to freak out, it's so good.
  • Now slice the steak across the grain in slices to your desired thickness.
  • Enjoy with a big old spicy smile!

Remember that the recipe time does not reflect marinating time. Prep this the night before you want to cook it. Or in the early morning the day you want to cook it. Do not marinate any longer than that since the recipe has acid in it.

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post through TapInfluence on behalf of Hairfinity. Y’all know if I did not fully trust a product I would never recommend it. I will never take your trust in me for granted. If I ever hate a product I will straight up tell you. It’s just how I roll.

I would be so horrified if my hairdresser turned my hair green! I once had the bottom half of my hair dyed black (I’m blonde on top), and after a first wash, my blonde hair turned gray. I was in tears over the sink. Fortunately a few washes separating out the black hair put the blonde back to normal! Glad your hair is starting to feel back to normal!

Also – this steak sounds AMAZING! It looks so tender!

Thanks for the tips on improving my hair! I really need some help! I’m going to check out those vitamins. Oh, and add some protein to my diet – starting with this yummy looking steak.

I hate hair issues; mine is minor compared to yours but still exasperating…all I want is someone to cut it the way I want; not the way THEY want. Harder than you think!

But more importantly…I love flank steak and am always grateful for another recipe. Sounds fabulous.

Your hair looks gorgeous, and that steak is not far behind! Compound butters over steak are (in a word) heavenly!
