Cherry Almond Smoothie- Start your morning off right with a refreshing smoothie packed with cherries and almond milk.

Cherry Almond Smoothie- Start your morning off right with a refreshing smoothie packed with cherries and almond milk. @lovemysilk

I am a serious cherry fanatic. I mean serious! Cherries are my favourite fruit and I love using them in recipes as often as possible. To me there is nothing better than sipping on a smoothie that uses my favourite fruit.

One thing that pairs perfectly with cherries is almonds. It just enhances the cherry flavour so much. In fact I highly recommend any time you bake something with cherries you should forget the vanilla extract and use almond extract instead.

That knowledge is what lead to the creation of this smoothie. I wanted to make a cherry smoothie with some frozen cherries I picked up recently. Since this recipe was featuring Silk products I knew using their almond milk was the way to go.

I whipped up a huge batch of these smoothies. Why? Because I can make one giant batch at the beginning of the week then freeze whatever I don't drink for later in the week. So essentially one whir of my blender for a week of smoothies.

Silk Almond Milk can be frozen, and that little nugget of information can save you time. Let's be honest, mornings are hectic in any household so any chance you get to make it run smoothly is a bonus.

I put my extra smoothies in small mason jars, then pop a lid on them and stick them in the freezer. I keep a few different varieties on hand at all times. That gives me lots of options.

When I get up in the morning I pop whichever flavour I'm digging that day on my counter. Then I hop on my treadmill for my workout, grab a quick shower and at that point my smoothie has defrosted enough for me to drink it.

On the off chance it's not fully defrosted just pop it in your blender to loosen up any frozen bits. Works like a charm. Not even kidding.

If you are a night time planner you can pop the smoothie in the fridge before you go to bed. It will defrost slower and be perfect for the morning. I just give mine a quick shake before drinking.

I think that is one of the reasons I love mason jars so much. They are perfect for freezing, perfect for shaking up a drink, you can use them instead of glasses for drinking and you can pop them in the dishwasher.

The fact that you can bring them on the run is another perk. That lid makes them perfectly portable. Hop in your car and bring your Silk Smoothie with you to work. It doesn't get any better than that.

    Ingredients

    • 2 cups frozen cherries do not thaw
    • 1 cup ice
    • 2 cups Silk Almond Milk
    • 1 teaspoon almond extract
    • Optional: ½ teaspoon roasted saigon cinnamon

    Instructions

    • Place cherries and ice in your blender and pulse till ingredients become fine in texture. Add the Silk Almond Milk and almond extract. Pulse until smooth. If you feel adventurous add some cinnamon. It will rock your smoothie world. No lie.
    • Enjoy with a big old smoothie loving smile!

    Notes

You can adjust your ingredients depending on how thick or thin you like your smoothies.
If you like them on the thin side add about ¼ cup of cherry juice to this. The added flavour is fabulous.
The cinnamon gives this a serious flavour boost. It's a little out of the normal but I love mine with cinnamon. Give it a try in a single batch to make sure you like it before adding it to a huge batch.

Make sure you try out my trick to freeze extra portions in mason jars so you have smoothies available all week long. You are going to love being able to pull them out of the freezer on busy mornings. It's an easy trick to make your life easier.

I adore the cherry/almond combination too, and know that I'd love this smoothie. What a great idea to make it the night before, letting it slowly defrost in the morning.
