These Easy Semi-Homemade Strawberry Pop Tarts are perfect served for breakfast or as a snack. They are quick and easy to make, plus they are super cute!
These strawberry pop tarts are perfectly cute little hand pies that everyone will love!
Only a few ingredients and you have fresh pies out of the oven and ready to eat in under 30 minutes. Less if you're speedy!
I love making hand pies, they are quick, easy and you can customize them any way you like.
With a family like mine where everyone has different favourites when it comes to filling being able to customize a variety of batches always comes in handy.
Hand pies are basically very similar to pop tarts. You just glaze your hand pies and toss on some sprinkles.
Voila, happy kids. I'm not going to lie, you'll end up with some very happy adults as well. I've never met anyone who can resist a pop tart.
I hope you can make and eat them with less mess than I made.
My family always laughs at my ability to trash my entire kitchen and wardrobe while cooking even the simplest thing. I am one seriously messy cook.

Easy Semi Homemade Strawberry Pop Tarts
Ingredients
- 1 package pre-made pie dough or homemade
- 21 ounces strawberry pie filling
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 large egg beaten lightly
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 1 tablespoon milk more or less depending on how thin or thick you like you icing
- Sprinkles to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
- Lay out two cookie sheets, line each with parchment. Set aside.
- On a clean counter toss a small handful of AP flour, this will help keep the pie dough from sticking.
- Take your pie dough out and roll it out gently with a rolling pin. You just want to stretch it a very little bit and try to make more of a rectangle than a circle.
- Using a knife, pastry cutter, or even a pizza wheel cut your pie dough into small rectangles, all equal in size. Lay half of them on the cookie sheets.
- Beat an egg in a small bowl, brush over top of the dough. The edges are most important, it helps to seal the edges of the pop tarts.
- In a medium bowl mix the strawberry pie filling and cinnamon. Stir well. Place a dollop in the middle of each dough you set on the cookie sheet. You want to make a line in the middle with about 1 to 1-½ tablespoons of filling mixture. Stay away from the edges.
- Now place the remaining half of your shaped pie dough pieces over top of the filled bottom pieces.
- Gently press down the edges with your thumb or forefinger. Use a fork dusted with flour and press down all around the edges. If you have any uneven spots you can trim the edges with a pastry wheel.
- If you are not putting icing on them you can brush the top with the egg wash again. If you are using icing on top I'd skip the wash personally.
- Poke a few small holes in the top of each pop tart. Nothing drastic.
- Place the first cookie sheet in the oven and cook for about 10 to 12 minutes, until lightly golden brown. Remove and allow to cool.
- Repeat with second cookie sheet.
- In a small bowl mix confectioners sugar and milk really well. You can make the glaze thicker by adding more confectioners sugar. Or you can make it thinner by adding more milk. Everyone likes theirs a bit different so adjust to your own taste. You can add food colouring if you like, or even extracts for added flavour.
- Once the pop tarts are cooled completely you can put the icing on. You can either drizzle in lines over top, or use an offset spatula to spread it more evenly. Your choice.
- Toss sprinkles over top.
- Enjoy with a big old strawberry pop tart loving smile.

You. On video. The bestest!!
Kim Beaulieu
I was hoping no one would notice. My laundry is 40 years old and heinous. Plus I suck at video. You should see the out-takes. K taped me and we kept laughing. It took about an hour to shoot 3 minutes. Lots of swearing. I didn't include that. I should do an out-take reel.
amanda @ fake ginger
These are so cute!
Kim Beaulieu
Awe, thanks Amanda. Wait till you see the chocolate version I've got coming up. Omg. Wish we lived closer.

These hand pies are pretty nifty I must say. Kind of like super fancy pop tarts. And resolve is something we use tons of as I am a gymboree man (father to 2 daughters...only had brothers growing up.....embracing my feminine side). I hate it when my girlies stain and ruin their good clothes so I stain proof asap.
Kim Beaulieu
Thanks Tom. I love that they're easy but deceptively look hard. Ha. I adore recipes like that.
Kudos to you for embracing it, more men should. Gymboree rocks.
Stains are no bueno in my world too. My kids were so active when they were younger. One is out west for school now, but the other is here in school but army part time. She really demolishes her uniform, resolve is about the only thing that can get that grime out. I love using onion bags to scrub stains, gets the stain out super fast. One of my favourite tricks.
Kayle (The Cooking Actress)
oooooh strawberry were my fave kind of poptarts and I love that I could make a better homemade version!
Kim Beaulieu
I love strawberry too. I hope you make them. I'm obsessed with them. Been making all kinds of them. I have another version coming up with homemade chocolate dough. It's pretty cool.
Tasha @thatssoyummy
These poptarts look AMAZING!
Ashley @ Wishes & Dishes
I've always wanted to try poptarts at home! You made it look so easy!
Stephanie
Great job with the video! And these hand pies. YUM!
Brenda@SugarfreeMom
I'm with you, a complete messy baker and cook but it's worth it for the deliciousness that comes forth woudn't you say! Resolve is a life changer in the stain department for sure!
Holly N @ Spend With Pennies
I love the idea of using the netting as a scrubbie with the Resolve Gold! (Going to try this on my daughter's grass stains from soccer).
Lora @cakeduchess
First of all, you on video...so fantastic!! You rocked it, Kim. You're a natural and I need this new Resolve product for my chef's jackets, b/c some days I'm at a loss on how to clean them! Love these hand pies and need one now with my coffee!
Kim Beaulieu
Oh gawd, I hate doing video. I do all these weird things with my face I never realized I do. And can we just talk about the arm jiggle, omg, seriously, horrible. But the product works like a charm. So it's all good that I horrified everyone and traumatized myself and my readers. Right?
Pop Tarts dull the pain and soothe my ego. Ha ha ha
Erin @ Texanerin Baking
I'm terribly messy, too! Not just in baking, but in general. 😉 I obviously need some of that Resolve stain remover! You were great in the video and I honestly gasped when I saw the color of your washer and dryer. So pretty.
And I love how simple the pop tarts are!
Kim Beaulieu
Thanks, I've had that set since we moved in here. My first fancy set ever. I went with the candy apple red because I could never afford that candy apple red Mustang I always wanted. Ha. It's a treat to use. I don't let anyone else touch it. Unfortunately a friend's kiddo put scratches in it trying to move some chairs one day. I need to order touch up paint. He was just trying to help, it happens.
I am so messy when I cook. Hubs does the dishes and when he walks in he just shakes his head. I look like I took every single item out and flung baking ingredients over the walls. I don't know why, I just get so in the zone. ha
Jessica (Savory Experiments)
Oh, Kim! I love being able to see you! I could totally use this- I'm a stain queen! As in I make them, but can't get them out...
Kim Beaulieu
I apologize if the experience was traumatizing. Ha.
I'm a stain queen too, I think when you spend as much time in the kitchen as we do it's inevitable. I learned a lot when the kids were wee little. Miss Thing was notorious for grass stains. My sister taught me the netting trick and I've used it ever since. Works like a charm. I also keep a netting bag upstairs by the laundry basket with a bar of soap in it, just for emergencies when I know I won't have time to run my butt downstairs. Then I go over it again with Resolve, works every time.

I love how simple these pop tarts are!! I'd love to try that stain remover, too. Thanks for sharing!!
Kim Beaulieu
Thanks Rose. I love an easy recipe, it's so quick on busy mornings.
You will love it. Us cooks all have to share our cleaning tips. Goodness knows we get a lot of stains.
Bobbi from Bobbi's Kozy Kitchen
Woot woot you's a movie star now 😉 Now I gotta get my happy butt to make some video!!
Kim Beaulieu
*rolls eyes* ha ha ha
I think I may be the only blogger in the world who does not want to be on TV. Ever. Never. Ever. Ever.
Thanks, my friend.
Liz
Oh, boy! LOVE how easy these are. My family loves an excuse to have frosting for breakfast!!! Now I have to go see your 40 year old laundry room 😉
Alida
These homemade pop tarts look so tasty! I like video too - you did great!! 🙂
Nutmeg Nanny
Look at you with your fancy video! I know you said not to watch the video but I couldn't help it 🙂 Also these hand pies look pretty darn amazing!
Heidi
Wow! Such a fun idea! They look delish!
Victoria @DazzleWhileFrazzled
These pop tarts look good. I'll have to try as my kids have never had a pop tart! Visiting from Welcome Home Wednesday.
Rachel
Can you make these ahead of time? What’s the best way to store them?
Kim Beaulieu
Hi Rachel. Yes, you can. I store mine in containers and use parchment or waxed paper to divide the rows. You can store them in the fridge but it might dull the frosting slightly.
Jane straus
I’ve made these with blueberries and strawberries and my kids loved them! So easy to make!
Kim Beaulieu
Thanks so much.
